Russo & Steele Shatter Ferrari Record

Russo & Steelโ€™s three-day auction during Augustโ€™s Monterey Car Week reinforced owner Drew Alcazarโ€™s decision last year to move the event to Fishermenโ€™s Wharf, as more than 10,000 enthusiasts streamed through the eventโ€™s tents, generating more than $7.1 million in total sales.

The top lot at Russo & Steele proved to be a handsome 1949 Ferrari 166 Inter Berlinetta, one of only 37 166 Inter chassis built in all, and one of just 10 bodied by Stabilimenti Farina, which sold for $1.05 million and eclipsed the previous record for the model by more than $250,000.

Russoโ€™s other top sellers included the first Cobra ever sold to the public from Shelby Americanโ€™s West Coast operations (CSX2012) for $850,000, a 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS at $247,500, followed by โ€œbook-endโ€ Shelby GT500s comprising a concours-winning first-year example from 1967 selling for $159,500 and an extremely rare final-series 1970 Super Cobra Jet/Drag Pack car in brilliant Grabber Yellow selling for $134,750. Other notable sales included a 1956 Lincoln Mark II Coupe for $112,500 and a 1958 Lancia B20 GT Coupe for $110,000.
