Silverstone Celebrates 60th

Damon Hill OBE, president of the British Racing Driversโ€™ Club (BRDC) and the 1996 Formula One World Champion, joinedย  Richardย  Phillipsย  andย  hisย  staffย  atย  Silverstoneย  onย  October 2, 2008,ย  to celebrateย  theย  circuitโ€™sย  Diamondย  Anniversary.ย  Hill andย  Phillipsย  posedย  for photosย  withย  aย  60thย  anniversary birthday cake baked in the shape of the Northamptonshire circuitโ€™s famous Grand Prix track, before presenting it to the staff from Silverstone and the BRDC.

Hill commented, โ€œIt is testimony to British motor sport that Silverstone is still going strong after 60 years. This is largely thanks to the support of fans, competitors, marshals, and the motor sport community.โ€ Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, added, โ€œSilverstone is a uniqueย  raceย  circuit,ย  loved byย  manyย  ofย  theย  driversย  andย  ridersย  whoย  raceย  here.ย  Theย  greatest names in motor sport have all competed on this track, ranging from Luigi Villoresi who won theย  firstย  everย  Grandย  Prixย  inย  1948, through toย  ourย  veryย  ownย  Lewisย  Hamiltonย  whoย  wonย  this yearโ€™s British Grand Prix in July. There have also been numerous legends of both four- and two-wheeled racing in between, and they are all part of Silverstoneโ€™s rich heritage.
