Among the many attractions of the 20th Annual Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, scheduled for May 30-31 at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich, Connecticut, will be a supercharged 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Cabriolet with coachwork by Gangloff that is being offered at Bonhams Greenwich Concours d’Elegance Auction on Sunday May 31.
Introduced in 1934, the Type 57 opened a new era for the company as Jean Bugatti, son of “Le Patron,” Ettore Bugatti, assumed to reins. It featured numerous technical advances, including its dual-overhead cam, five-main-bearing eight-cylinder engine, a transmission with synchromesh on its top three gears, and a single-plate clutch.
The Type 57 was one of Bugatti’s most successful models, and this particular 57C represents a later derivative, being an original supercharged example, and sporting cabriolet bodywork by Gangloff coachbuilders. It is expected to draw bids in the $1 million range.
