After leaving Lotus, I was โsucked inโ by Don Nichols and rejoined Shadow. He said James Hunt would be our driver, and that all the problems of the past had been sorted out. Iโd had offers from Fittipaldi and Renault, but in the end I went back to Shadow.
Tab-a-tip had replaced UOP as title sponsors, which freed us from having to use UOPโs lead-free fuel. UOP were the leaders of the fuel in racing and used racing to promote its use in domestic vehicles. There was no advantage in using the fuel, and we repeatedly had to provide the relevant governing bodies with samples to test. Conversely, I donโt think it compromised our performance either.
