German engineering firm Capricorn has partnered with Italian design house Zagato to create its first-ever supercar — the Capricorn 01. While relatively unknown to the public, Capricorn has long been a quiet force in high-performance engineering, having developed engine components for Bugatti and aerodynamic systems for Audi and Porsche.
Since the 1990s, the company has also supplied critical parts to Formula 1 and World Endurance Championship teams. The 01 marks Capricorn’s debut as a full-fledged manufacturer, showcasing the company’s technical prowess through a car designed entirely in-house and styled by Zagato. True to the Italian studio’s signature flair, the design features clean, flowing lines and an unmistakably exotic silhouette.
Under the sculpted body lies a 5.2-liter supercharged V8, based on a Ford 5.0-liter unit but heavily reworked with a bespoke crankshaft, rods, pistons, and a custom intake, exhaust, and dry-sump system. The result is 887 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque, good for 0–62 mph in under three seconds and a top speed of 223 mph.
Only 19 units will be produced, priced at roughly $3.4 million each, signaling Capricorn’s transformation from an elite engineering supplier into a creator of bespoke, limited-production hypercars. Top Gear recently offered a first look at this striking new analog machine.
