Okay "STANGMAN", you don't have to yell. And I don't know whats up with all the F*** this and F*** that stuff, but last time I checked, this is a public board. So chill. It's okay to be pro ford or pro chevy, but that doesn't mean every other make of car sucks. You've got that, my daddy owns a phord so chevy's suck mentallity. The Silverado SS "CONCEPT" cuts an impressive figure with its brilliant poppy red color and huge aluminum wheels and absolutely shatters the traditional sport truck performance mold by arriving in an extended cab configuration. While some might argue that an extended cab takes away from the pure sporting nature of past SS vehicles, others would argue this allows the entire family to partake in the fun. The Silverado SS's bed seamlessly joins the cab in a unibody design somewhat similar to the Chevy Avalanche. Even though Ive heard it will probabably be a "body over frame" production vehicle. In keeping with the Corvette theme (and sharing of parts), the Silverado SS concept is powered by a modified 5.7-liter LS1 Corvette powerplant bored out to 6.6-liters and mated to a six-speed manual tranny. This engine is capable of 480 horsepower and 475 ft-lbs. of torque. All this without the aid of a supercharger.

Now lets look under the Ford Lightning's hood. The 5.4 liter engine has a stronger crankshaft than found in the regular F-150 to help power the Eaton provided supercharger. This Eaton Gen IV Roots-type supercharger provides 8.0 psi pressure. Longitudinally mounted, the Triton V8 is a SOHC (single overhead cam) cast iron engine pumping out 360 horsepower at 4750 rpm, or 66.7 hp per liter. Torque is rated 440 ft/lbs. at 3000 rpm. Engine redline can be found at 5250 rpm and for that extra protection fuel shutoff is at 5400 rpm. The SVT Lightning has a 5.4L supercharged and intercooled V8 engine as standard equipment, producing 380hp and 450 ft.-lb. of torque.

Obviously impractical and too expensive for widescale production I expect the 2003 Silverado SS to go with the current engine of choice for GM's high-end trucks, the small block Vortec 6000 6.0-liter V8 and not the modified LS1. This one's an iron LQ4(6.0) block with LS1 aluminum heads. It drives through a Hydra-matic 4L60-E 4-speed automatic and then a conventional 3.73:1 limited-slip rear end. The only change to the tranny is a high stall-speed torque converter. In the combustion department, the LS1 heads raise the compression ratio from 10.1:1 to 10.5:1. A new higher lift and higher duration camshaft combined with polished intake and exhaust ports improves engine breathing, as do the K&N air filter and bell-mouth intake tract opening. Down below, a longer oil pan allows the use of a Corvette windage tray. And out back, dual Edelbrock mufflers with 3-in. stainless steel tailpipes eliminate the stock Y-pipe, which reduces exhaust backpressure. The end result is a horsepower boost to 395 (95 more than stock) and a torque peak increase to 409 ft.-lb. (54 more than stock). Based on my talk with Jon Moss(head of the chevy specialty vehicle team) from SEMA last year, it will most likely be supercharged.

    Any questions Mr.Stang?

PS- Oh, and even if the SS never gets produced(vary, vary highly unlikely). Dodge is going to produce a truck called the SRT-10 equipped with the next generation Viper engine, a 500hp / 500ft-lb 8.3-liter V10. It's standing 1/4 mile 12.9 sec. @106 mph
    0-100-0 mph 18 sec.

  2. trucks aren't for lowering... they're for raising and putting 44"s on<!-- Signature -->

  3. I've never seen a badder truck from anywhere this is ten times the truck compared to the lightning. The lightning doesnt stand a chance. This truck and the lightning arent even in the same playing field, it would be a joke to compare these two trucks, the SS is in a league of its own. Hell if i saw this truck driving down the road i would cream my pants and sit there with my mouth open just amazed by the beauty and the power of this must have truck. It gets my vote over the Lightning, F-150 Harley Davidson, and its brother the Avalanche, it just doesnt get better than this SS.

  4. stangman if you think that this truck is ugly you must be #$%#ing blind & quickness wise 9secondcar is right you bia just look at the horse power & no it is not super or turbo charged

  5. IT WEIGHS 5000 FUCKING LBS IT IS GOING TO BE SLOW

  6. "5000 pounds is heavy even for a truck with a 480 horsepower?????" Get real dumb#$%#, and guess what, the lightning is still slower, once you get past 80mph in your lightning this truck will begin to pull away, because weight really doesnt matter when going triple digits, and since both trucks have the same aerodynamic shape, this chevy will have higher top speed, since the HP to DRAG ratio is way more important than to HP to MASS ratio. Light weight is good for speed if you dont plan on going past 75 mph in a race and more people prefer straight line runs, Its the american way, and dont give me this shit about your rice bucket handling better too.<!-- Signature -->

  7. Chevy NEEDS to put this truck into production!!!!!!

This truck is exactly what chevy needs to make the ford lightning look like a little toy truck!

  8. HELL yea they need to put this into production it will make ford wimper a put their tale between their legs. Ive spent the last two days searching on more specifications on this truck cant find crap on it . The onley way they will put this into production is IF chevy lovers will do what they did with the ssr concept truck comming out early 2002 they need to go to the car show and events and give chevy a big response on this truck let them know that this truck is going to be a big #$%#en hit it will anihlate every damned sports truck on the market IT will be a historical classic it will be remembered always >chevy made the big mistake of releasing the ssr instead of the ss silvardo they do not know what they are doing they will not make as much money realesing the ssr intead of this beutiful machine .THIS TRUCK HAULS ASS AND LOOKS LIKE A GOOD LOOKING PAIR OF BRESTS YOU CANT STOP LOOKING AT.<!-- Signature -->

  9. Now this is one sweet truck. This has to go in production!! And it's like the guy above me said, if you want to see this car in production, you have got to make a big deal of it, show the guys at Chevy we like this truck a lot. This is the way the Viper went in production...

    keep the faith

  10. TWO WORDS. BEAN RIDE. Im sorry but this is the dumbest design for a truck from GM since the ssr. There is no way in hell there gonna put this car into production with 479 bhp. Even if they do than the price would be outrageous. It is a stupid looking truck and trucks should just stick with off roading and hauling.

  11. How in the world can you come up with a RAT powered truck, punch it out and then never put i into production...this turck has lots of power and room for a tall fellas to get LA*D...hahahaha

  12. hey DSTREET this truck rocks and you should keep your nose out of human buisness<!-- Signature -->

Chevy shood also start producing a V-10 for their deisel's, and then eventually move to the vette!!

  16. They need to put this into production except as a regular cab two door so it will look better, weigh less and smoke a lightning

  17. Damm this truck looks pretty tight though but they do need to put this truck in to production because they need to make Ford look stupid because Ford is for them cowboys they can't touch this TRUCKKK!

  20. I agree 100%. THIS TRUCK IS SWEET!!! Say goodbuy to the Lightning

  21. it is only heavier by 326 pounds i don't consider it that much heavier and with more horses it will easily beat the spark (aka lightning)hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  25. The Silverado SS has been in the works for a while. Jon Moss told me that chevy will start producing the SS during 2003 or 2004. I've gain my knowledge from 1. Talking to Jon Moss. 2. A packet he gave me. 3. I own a 99Silverado and had to do a lot of research for performance parts and accessories for the new 5.3L Vortec. 4. Experience from working on LS1, LS6, LT1 engines.<!-- Signature -->
