Re: Six speed

1. Six speed

It is about time Jag puts a six speed in their XKR.

Is this just only a Concept?

2. I'd love to have a six-speed. But when would I use the sixth gear? I guess if the land is flat, but there aren't many flat areas in Athens, GA.

3. U know, I asked myself the same question. Here in Belgium I don't even use the fifth gear that much. Ony on straight roads, and even then I let the car pull in forth a long time before shifting to fifth. So if I had a sixth gear, I don't think I would ever use it... Yeah maybe on highways. But that would be it I guess.

4. YOU GUYS WOULD NEVER USE IT!?!? Sheesh, think about draggin! Rippin' down the highway going 175 locked into the 6th gear!! To never use a fifth or sixth gear on a car is simply wasting gears.

I don't know where you live but it's illegal to do 175 down the highway. It's not a matter of never using the sixth as much as there would hardly be a point to it. Why were cars made back in the 60's and 70's equipped with a 4-speed? Because that was all that was necessary. If I was on a track i would use the sixth gear, and if I was going down the interstate I would use the sixth. Driving around town whether it be Athens or Savannah, I only use the fifth gear when there isn't a stoplight for miles.
Exactly, not using a fifth or sixth is a waste of gears. Six gears is fun to have, though, but not necessary. Case and point I wouldn't care what kind of transmission Jaguar puts in this thing, I'd still buy one.

Again you surprise me gimmy (i posted a reply on the xtype)

why would you buy a Jaguar if you dont intend to drive it stupid!

ohhh its illegal, big deal what are you doing on this site if youre not a real sportscar fan

but if you insist on being a booring legally driving grandmother
the sixth gear can be nice substitute to the 5th since it cuts on fuel to drive on higher gears

it should be legal to kill u dumbass american

There are only so many speeding tickets a man can get until he loses his ability to drive. I'm riding the limit right now. Insurance is not my friend right now.
While if I got one of these cars tomorrow, I'd be at the Atlanta Motor Speedway testing it's limits tomorrow. The only people who drive over 150 on a Georgia highway is running drugs and is going to get busted.
I'm not a real sportscar fan because I don't break the law? THAT IS ABSURD! I'd use the sixth going on the highway, but it serves no point driving in the city, because then it increases fuel consumption. I wish my car had six gears because my gas consumption would be even less than it is now. I have a pied-a-terre in Athens, Georgia (where I go to college) and the terrain surrounding it is hilly. I never use my fifth gear b/c the roads never really allow me to go over 55, and when I go over 55 it is only momentarily b/c another curve or hill is coming up. I do use fifth (and I'd use a sixth) on the city-surrounding loop.
I agree, stupid people should be killed. My plan is to send them in a space shuttle to colonize the sun. (Has a Swede ever been in orbit around the Earth?) I hate stupid people, I totally agree with you.
I'd love to see you kill an American. I'm sure the prisoners at the Federal Pound-Me-In-The-Ass Prison you would spend your days at would like to get a piece of foreign ass.
If you think I'm a dumbass then you are exigently mistaken. There is a reason why I'm in college. There's a reason why I'm a student at one of the most recherche universities in America much less the world. There is a reason why I am a student at the aforementioned university's business school that is in the Top 20 in the world. There is a reason why I am a Junior and why I have a GPA over 3.5. I am NOT a dumbass.
I don't care for an "internet duel" if you will; I already feel like I'm fighting the world right now. If there is anything I wrote that extremely got your panties in a wad, then I apologize for it. If it was the socialist comment, I apologize. Sweden does have the highest tax rates in the world and does have many government programs that are highly efficient and effective, but as an economist I believe that private businesses could do it better for less cost, assuming the right factors. Hell, you never know just what to expect. Enough of the economics lecture, though.
To recap: I'm not a dumbass, and I don't believe you to be one, either. I would drive this Jag as fast as I drive my car now (about 15 OVER the speed limit on the Interstate) and I would test the car's and my own limits on the track the first chance I got. Good day.

7. Gimmy nothing against Americans... but quite your billion word essay and learn to drive... if you have been given speading tickets obviously you dont drive fast enough to out run the cops... This baby could help that situtation.

BTW 6th gear would be good hear in Australia, and about cutting fuel consumption, if you can afford this you dont need to worry about fuel cost.

8. with the turque on this bad boy you could start from still in 6th gear.
anyway it does save gas, but as people have said if you aford this you won't car about gas. and everyone will use the gears that they are given, seriously i would.
this car should come up as it is, and i wouldn't even get a ticket going past speed limit, you just have to know where to drive.

Yeah, I wouldn't dare try to outrun the cops, and the car was a P.O.S. so there was little help on that. While I do agree that if you can afford the car, you can afford the gas, but there's no reason to waste gas like an old white woman driving an Expedition with no one in her car.
Bottom line is, I'd love to have this car (who wouldn't?) no matter what, and I WOULD use the sixth, I just want people to think.

10. erm guys you seem to have missed the point about the transmission... the fact it has 6 gears isnt the big issue (though it helps). the mainreason they did it was because the stock box in the XKR was an auto and the new one is a manual... which gives far better results.
