Following the Baldwin-Payne Special, Willis Baldwin built this race car for use in SCCA's modified classes on the short tracks of America. It competed from 1949 to 1959 and made it on the cover of Road & Track in May 1950.

Meta One illustrates what a future Mercury crossover vehicle might look like. Mercury will build a new production crossover vehicle in 2007. Meta One explores adaptation of the Mercury design DNA to a crossover and gives a hint of what such a product could represent for the brand.

In the early sixties, the rather pedestrian Comet was injected with more potential to take advantage of the performance car market that was exploding with Stock Car Racing. It was renamed the Cylone and became Mercury's circuit racer once it received Ford's big block V8 engine.

The Messenger concept car represents the first expression of Mercury's new design DNA with a clean, technical appearance that begins to establish the look of Mercury products still to come. Mercury will introduce four new products over the next four years including a minivan, a small sport utility and two cars.

The 2003 Mercury Marauder sedan goes on sale this summer. Pricing will be announced closer to launch. At this time, the convertible is purely a concept, but public reaction will be closely monitored to gauge whether sufficient demand exists to justify a full development program.

One of the most desirable of the early Mercury Marauders was the 1964 model equipped with the 427-cubic inch Super Marauder V-8. This engine, which pumped out a whopping 425-horsepower (gross), boasted all of the requisite 1960s-era technology for performance engines, including twin four-barrel carburetors, high-compression 11.5:1 pistons and cross-bolted main bearing caps.

This experimental Mercury (XM) was developed to showcase a new design direction for the firm. In their press release, the Lincoln-Mercury News Bureau said it was "The most advanced design in a car capable of going into volume production." Unfortunately, this never happened, but the XM-800's radical details were included on later models like the Lincoln Premier.
