1955 Porsche 356/1500GS Carrera
Before the 356 Carrera went into production, a limited number of Pre-production prototypes were made in 1955 for testing. Some of these cars were tested by journalists as support cars for races, while others were directly sold to private racing drivers.
The pre-production cars followed Ernst Fuhrmann's personal car which was the first to be fitted with the four-cam engine. By the time the car reached production, the 356A had debuted so all the Pre-A cars are essentially prototypes.
Like the production model, these cars used the potent Type 547/1 Flat-4 engine that had 110 capable bhp. At first, the model was primarily launched as a road car until the dedicated Carrera GT was sold in 1959.
This particular car was offered by Gooding & Co.'s Pebble Beach Auction but failed to meet reserve.
