1931 Bugatti Type 46 Coupé Profilée
With its streamlined body and luxurious chassis, the Coupé Profilée was the ultimate Bugatti in 1931. It followed both the Atlantic and Atalante, which had a dramatic fastback designs with a sloping rear-end. The Type-46 took the theme even further by extending the rear fenders and cutting off the trunk area.
At the time, the Type 46 was Bugatti’s top chassis and included a unique engine that cast the cylinder head and block in one casting. This design eventually produced the Type 41 Royale.
Jean Bugatti personally styled the Coupé Profilée which influenced many of his later designs including the Type 57 Ventoux and Type 50 Semi-Profilée.
Chassis
46491 – 1931 Type 46. Built on an unused chassis and received a recreated bodywork faithful to the Coupé Profilée design by Aston Keynes Vintage Restorations. During the build, the Bugatti Trust assisted to make it correct in every way.
46482 – Owned by the Schlumpf Brothers and later became a part of the centerpiece collection at the French National Motor Museum.
