This year seems to be littered with 50-year celebrations of various marques, teams, and occasions in motor racing.ย The 50th Anniversary of the Lister Jaguar โKnobblyโ was the latest to be observed at a sun-soaked Snetterton circuit, attended by Brian Lister, former driver John Coundley, and a number of former mechanics.
It was John Coundleyโs former wife Pat who first coined the name โKnobbly,โ affectionately describing the shape of the car while polishing it. Coundleyโs mechanic, John Pearson, relayed this to the team and soon thereafter the name stood.
Ultimately, the Lister name became synonymous with that of the valiant and very determined Archie Scott Brown, who tragically lost his life driving a โKnobblyโ in a sports car race at Spa-Francorchamps, while battling with Masten Gregory.
