The International Motor Racing Research Center at Watkins Glen will honor the British sports car Elva with a weekend of activities on Saturday April 21, and Sunday April 22. The event will feature Jรกnos Wimpffenโs award-winning book about the marque, Elva: The Cars, The People, The History, and the noted racing author/historian will deliver the eventโs keynote speech at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The talk is free and open to all.
Wimpffen will discuss the Elva companyโs origins in the 1950s, its successes and failures at the track and its influence on better-known marques, including McLaren. Copies of Wimpffenโs book, which won the Motor Press Guildโs Dean Batchelor Award as the best book of 2011, will be available for sale and signing throughout the weekend.
On Sunday, activities move to Watkins Glen International, which will be hosting its 2012 season-opening weekend, and where the Elvas in attendance will be on display at the start/finish line and Victory Circle area. A few parade laps around the famed circuit are also planned.
The International Motor Racing Research Center is dedicated to the preservation of the history of motorsports. For more information about the Centerโs work, visit its website at www.racingarchives.org.
