McLaren W1 to star at 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed

McLaren Automotive will honour the 2025 Festival of Speed theme, “Champions and Challengers,” by showcasing both its roadโ€‘car milestones and racing triumphs.

At the heart of โ€œMcLaren Houseโ€ will be the new McLarenโ€ฏW1, making its public debut. Limited to just 399 unitsโ€”all already spoken forโ€”the W1 blends authentic supercar theatre with raw driver engagement. Power comes from a brandโ€‘new 1,275โ€ฏPS rearโ€‘drive V8 hybrid, augmented by active aerodynamics inspired by Formulaโ€ฏ1 groundโ€‘effect principles. The W1 becomes the third entry in McLarenโ€™s distinctive โ€œ1โ€‘series,โ€ lining up alongside the iconic F1 and P1โ„ข to underline three eras of McLaren innovation, each car sharing DNA yet telling its own story.

Goodwood also provides the backdrop for a 30โ€‘year celebration of McLarenโ€™s landmark 1995 Leโ€ฏMans victory. The raceโ€‘winning F1โ€ฏGTR #59โ€”fresh from the “McLaren: A Name for Eternity” exhibition at the Leโ€ฏMans Museumโ€”will tackle the famous hill, driven by its original winner JJโ€ฏLehto.

A modern tribute arrives in the form of the 750Sโ€ฏLeโ€ฏMans. Revealed in June and capped at 50 examples, this specialโ€‘edition supercar wears a new MSO High Downforce Kit for extra grip and lapโ€‘time zeal, echoing the legendary F1โ€ฏLM that commemorated McLarenโ€™s 1995 triumph.

For the third consecutive year, the trackโ€‘only Solusโ€ฏGT will deliver earโ€‘splitting theatre at Goodwood. The singleโ€‘seat hyperโ€‘GT packs an 840โ€ฏPS 5.2โ€‘litre V10 and tips the scales below 1,000โ€ฏkg. After winning the 2023 Timed Shootout and thrilling crowds again in 2024โ€”when Mikaโ€ฏHรคkkinen drove a customer example resplendent in his 1998 MP4/13 coloursโ€”the Solusโ€ฏGT returns in 2025 for more dynamic runs.

McLarenโ€™s 750S and Artura โ€œMCL38 Celebration Editionโ€ models will also storm the hill. Limited to nine units apiece, these cars carry an MSOโ€‘curated livery in signature Papaya Orange and Anthracite, released to mark McLarenโ€™s 2024 Formulaโ€ฏ1 Constructorsโ€™ Championship title.

Finally, 2025 celebrates a decade of McLarenโ€™s adrenalineโ€‘charged โ€œLTโ€ lineage. The global โ€œCelebrateโ€ฏLTโ€ programme, launched in March, has united Longtail owners worldwide. Heritage LT models will appear in the Supercar Paddock and join the festivalโ€™s dynamic demonstrations, cementing ten years of McLarenโ€™s most extreme road cars. From groundbreaking debuts to historic icons, McLarenโ€™s Goodwood lineโ€‘up promises a showcase worthy of this yearโ€™s festival mantra: champions of the past, challengers of the future.
