VIDEO: First Look at the Most Powerful AMG Ever

The new 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has up to 1,169 horsepower

The all-electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe marks a defining moment for Mercedes-AMG, serving simultaneously as the brand’s most powerful production vehicle, its first series-built EV, and the spiritual successor to the combustion-powered AMG GT 4-Door Coupe.

With outputs climbing to an astonishing 1,169 horsepower in GT63 specification, AMG is positioning this machine directly against benchmarks such as the Porsche Taycan Turbo and BMW M5 while attempting to preserve the emotional intensity traditionally associated with AMG’s V8-powered models.

At the heart of the car lies an advanced tri-motor setup utilizing compact axial-flux electric motors developed by YASA. Two motors operate at the rear axle for precise torque vectoring, while a third powers the front axle, enabling sophisticated all-wheel-drive capability and exceptional responsiveness. Despite weighing nearly 2.5 tons, the GT63 accelerates from 0–62 mph in approximately 2.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 186 mph, placing it among the quickest road-going AMGs ever produced.

The engineering focus extends far beyond raw acceleration. AMG’s dedicated EV architecture incorporates active aerodynamics, rear-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension, and an 800-volt electrical system paired with a 106-kWh battery pack capable of charging from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 11 minutes under ideal 600-kW DC charging conditions. The oil-cooled battery design prioritizes sustained performance rather than short bursts of speed, addressing one of the most significant limitations of high-performance EVs.

Inside, the cabin embraces a dramatic, technology-heavy atmosphere dominated by expansive digital displays, configurable drive modes, and AMG’s “Race Engineer” controls that allow drivers to manipulate throttle response, agility, and traction characteristics in real time. Perhaps most controversial—and intriguing—is AMG’s synthetic sound engineering.

Through external speakers integrated into the headlights and digitally simulated gearshift interruptions, the car reproduces the aggressive acoustics and mechanical sensations of AMG’s celebrated V8 engines. Rather than behaving like a silent electric appliance, the GT 4-Door Coupe deliberately amplifies emotion and theater, signaling AMG’s determination to redefine performance EVs without abandoning its identity.
