RML has transformed the Porsche 992.1 Turbo S into something far more extreme with the P39 40SE, a limited-production GT hypercar engineered to combine long-distance usability with track-focused aerodynamic performance. Showcased by RML CEO Paul Dickinson on Jay Leno’s Garage the project draws heavily from the British firm’s four decades of motorsport and low-volume engineering experience.
The concept was born from a simple engineering challenge: create a Porsche with the road manners of a Turbo S and the circuit capability of a GT3 RS. Inspired by modern GT1 and Le Mans machinery, RML digitally scanned the donor car before recreating it in CAD. Computational fluid dynamics and chassis simulations were then used to develop the complete package without relying on conventional clay modeling.
The result features a fully carbon-fiber body, widened tracks, a 25-mm longer wheelbase, active aerodynamic elements, a flat floor and large rear diffuser. RML claims the car generates roughly three times the downforce of the standard Turbo S in its normal configuration, with additional aerodynamic load available in Track mode. Its hydraulically controlled rear wing also incorporates a DRS-style function for improved straight-line efficiency.
Power comes from the Turbo S’s 3.7-liter twin-turbo flat-six, extensively upgraded with larger turbochargers, intercoolers and revised engine mapping. Output rises from approximately 650 hp to more than 900 hp, while the factory eight-speed PDK transmission and carbon-ceramic brakes are retained.
A sophisticated hydraulic system controls ride height, damping and aerodynamic functions. The suspension can operate in road, nose-lift and track configurations, while steering-wheel controls allow the driver to adjust the car’s aerodynamic, chassis and powertrain settings.
Inside, RML retains much of the familiar Porsche character while adding Recaro seats, harnesses, a rear cage and bespoke detailing. Customers can also retain Porsche comfort seats, with one example even configured with its rear seats.
Production is limited to 39 customer cars plus a development car, commemorating RML’s 40th anniversary. Each conversion takes roughly 20 weeks, with customers supplying a 992.1 Turbo S donor. The P39 40SE ultimately represents RML’s broader philosophy: applying race-car engineering methods to create a road-legal Porsche capable of transforming from comfortable grand tourer to serious track machine.
