Listed for sale on Bring a Trailer with no reserve, this 2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale represents one of the most focused naturally aspirated V8 Ferraris of the modern era. Introduced at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Speciale transformed the 458 Italia through extensive weight reduction, aerodynamic development and chassis electronics, with fewer than 2,000 examples reportedly produced between 2013 and 2015.
Finished in Rosso Scuderia with Nero accents over Nero and Rosso upholstery, this example was specified with approximately $85,000 in options, including adaptive xenon headlights, carbon-fiber trim and navigation. It rides on 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, while magnetorheological dampers and Ferrari/Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes with cross-drilled rotors provide the hardware necessary for serious track performance.
The Speciale’s aerodynamic package was developed by Ferrari’s Styling Centre in collaboration with Pininfarina. Its revisions include an active horizontal front flap, spring-loaded radiator airflow doors, finned side sills, a taller rear spoiler, revised bumpers and a motor-actuated rear drag-reduction system. A redesigned rear diffuser and dual-exhaust arrangement further optimize airflow, giving the Speciale a level of aerodynamic sophistication unusual for a road-going Ferrari of its era.
At the heart of the car is a naturally aspirated 4.5-liter DOHC V8 extensively reworked for Speciale duty. Revised pistons and camshafts, a 14:1 compression ratio, an optimized intake system and carbon-fiber intake components help produce a factory-rated 605 horsepower at a screaming 9,000 rpm and 398 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle and electronic differential.
Ferrari also recalibrated the Speciale’s electronic systems, integrating its retuned Side Slip Angle Control (SSC) with F1-Trac traction management and the E-Diff to optimize torque distribution. Capable of generating 1.33 g of lateral acceleration, the Speciale was engineered to deliver near-supercar-level circuit performance while retaining road usability.
Inside, weight-saving carbon-fiber door panels, dashboard trim and seat frames complement Nero and Rosso Alcantara and cloth upholstery. A multifunction steering wheel with shift paddles, LED shift lights and the adjustable manettino completes the driver-focused cockpit, while dual-zone climate control, navigation and a CD stereo provide everyday functionality.
