Listed for sale on Bring a Trailer, this 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series represents one of the most exclusive iterations of AMG’s front-engine supercar formula. Introduced at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Black Series was the fifth model to receive AMG’s most aggressive performance treatment, with production limited to just 130 examples between 2013 and 2015.
Compared with the standard SLS AMG, the Black Series underwent extensive engineering revisions aimed at improving power, agility, and track capability. Weight was reduced by 154 pounds through the expanded use of carbon fiber across the body, spaceframe, and drivetrain, while a carbon-fiber hood, titanium exhaust, wider bodywork, and revised aerodynamic elements further distinguished the model. The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission was repositioned lower in the chassis, helping reduce the center of gravity.
At its heart is AMG’s hand-assembled 6.2-liter M159 DOHC naturally aspirated V8. Modified camshafts, shorter intake runners, and revised valve timing helped produce a factory-rated 622 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered exclusively to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle and limited-slip differential, enabling a claimed 0-to-60-mph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 196 mph.
The chassis received AMG Ride Control suspension with electronically controlled two-stage damping, speed-sensitive power steering, and a wider track. An electronically controlled AMG rear-axle differential lock and shorter final-drive ratio further optimize traction and corner-exit performance. Carbon-ceramic brakes with AMG calipers provide braking capability, while staggered 19- and 20-inch 10-spoke wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
This example is finished in AMG Solarbeam Yellow over a black leather and Alcantara interior accented with red detailing. Its exterior combines the signature gullwing doors with a carbon-fiber airfoil, straked front-fender vents, carbon-fiber mirror caps, power-folding mirrors, bi-xenon headlights, and polished exhaust outlets.
Inside, heated power-adjustable AMG Sport seats, extensive carbon-fiber trim, a Black Dinamica headliner, and an Alcantara-wrapped AMG Performance steering wheel establish a distinctly motorsport-oriented cabin. Aluminum shift paddles accompany instrumentation displaying a 240-mph speedometer, tachometer, oil temperature, and fuel level. Modern conveniences include Keyless Go, a rearview camera, dual-zone automatic climate control, and COMAND navigation with AMG Track Pace.
Purchased new from the selling dealer, this exceptionally low-mileage SLS AMG Black Series has covered just 576 miles, preserving a rare example of AMG’s naturally aspirated, rear-wheel-drive supercar era.
