Unveiled at the 2003 Geneva Show, the Zonda Roadster showcased unparalleled elegance. It featured an enhanced AMG 7.3-liter V-12 engine, crafted by hand, and boasted a removable carbon-fiber roof panel. The car rode on forged aluminum, 19-inch alloy wheels paired with ultra low-profile Michelin tires, measuring 255 mm in the front and 335 mm in the rear. The bespoke design of these tires was a testament to Michelin’s dedication to this extraordinary machine.
The Roadster’s distinctive central monocoque structure achieved unprecedented strength and torsional rigidity, complemented by an elliptical rollbar intricately tied to the rear chassis, constructed from a blend of carbon-fiber and chrome-molybdenum alloy. Minor aerodynamic revisions included the addition of efficient NACA air ducts to the rear engine cover.
Power comes from a 7,291-cc DOHC Mercedes-Benz AMG E73 60º Alloy V-12, equipped with Bosch Motronic ME7 sequential electronic fuel injection, propelled the 7.3 C12 Zonda Roadster, generating an impressive 555 bhp at 5,900 engine revolutions. With a dry weight of just 2,756 pounds, the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of up to 220 mph.
Continuing the tradition of exclusivity, only 40 Roadsters were slated for production, with a mere 25 reaching completion. The interior of the Zonda Roadster was a captivating blend of hand-selected leather upholstery, aluminum, and carbon fiber, all fitted by master artisans. This masterpiece not only embodied the latest in materials, engineering, and design at the time but also celebrated traditional Italian craftsmanship and character.
