Ferrari has revealed its most hardcore version of the 296 yet: the 296 Speciale. It’s sharper, more powerful, lighter, and more focused than the already blistering 296 GTB. Available in both coupe and Spider forms, it introduces new performance benchmarks and an exclusive green paint called Verde Nurburgring.
The Speciale retains the GTB’s 3.0L twin-turbo V6 and hybrid setup but increases the combined output from 830 to 880 horsepower. That comes from a 700-hp combustion engine and an upgraded 180-hp electric motor. The electric motor fills in torque gaps during gearshifts, enabling faster transitions through the 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Thanks to a 7.4 kWh battery, you still get a usable 15–20 miles of electric-only range.
Officially, the Speciale runs 0–62 mph in 2.8 seconds and tops over 205 mph. More importantly, it laps Ferrari’s Fiorano track in 1:19, two seconds faster than the GTB—a serious margin on a short circuit.
