Well, as promised I managed to find a pic of the GTR-X, but not the ones I took at the motor show. Found this in a paper article.

You are oh so right ..... here are a couple of photos of the 2 TCs that I owned. The green one had a supercharger fitted.

It [the socalled XU2] was actually called the GTR-X and was at the Sydney motor show in 1975 or 76.

Only the GTRs had a black stripe. The XU1s were thankfully stripe and orniment free. This is what gave them [the XU1s] there...
An LJ GTR-XU1 was $3,300 on the road in basic form, add the little tricky bits pushed it up to a massive $3,600. My XU1 was the backup rally car...
You are correct in that there was a huge campaign by the media and 'do gooders' at the time to lobby the powers that be to ban the new generation...
