200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

Discussion in '2002 Honda Civic Type-R' started by HooPoo, Aug 9, 2002.

  1. It has 200 hp and wights about 1200 kg and does 0 - 100 km/h (60mph)in under 7 seconds. This isnt bad fore a car that cost about 200 000 sek (about 20 k $)

This fuel burner kikz ass when it gets a turbo or kompressor.<!-- Signature -->

    hell ya

  6. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

I still think it sucks. Go buy a mustang or a camaro or anything but a civic if you want performance.

  7. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

But then, teh Civic Type R beats every car in its class - Focus ST170, VW Golf GTi, Mini Cooper S...

Except that the Mustang and Camaro are meant to be pure sports cars, while this is meant to be a mix of both sporty and economic. Personally I think it fits this bill quite well.

It also meant for higher driving fun.

It depends on whether ur measuring in DIN, ps, or hp.

  12. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

No, it depends on whether you are talking about the JDM one (215 PS, 212 bhp) or the Euro one (200 PS, 197 bhp).

    oicic.

  14. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

It doesnt beat the mini cooper s in handeling... and that is really what it was made for.

  15. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

It was made to be a daily driver that's got a little more to it than say a Corolla or a Sentra (excluding the SE-R).

  16. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

Have you seen the slalom times for it?

  17. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

Remind me again when daily drivers started being all about slalom times?

  18. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

    I'm talking about overall.

  19. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

so the SVT focus is a daily driver now?

  20. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

What does the SVT Focus have to do with the Civic and slalom times?

Actually, on a slalom, the Civic Type R is extremely good. On a 36m course, here are some speeds:

    Lotus Exige: 133 km/h
    Porsche 911 Carrera: 128 km/h
    Ferrari 360: 125 km/h
    Honda Civic Type R: 124 km/h
    Mercedes SL55 AMG: 124 km/h
    Lotus Esprit V8: 121 km/h
    Honda S2000: 118 km/h
    Audi S3: 114 km/h
    Golf V6: 113 km/h

    (source www.track-challenge.com)

So, as you can see, the Civic is right up there with some fairly exotic machinery.

For more stats lovers, here's a head to head of the Civic vs an Audi S3:
    Civic then Audi
    0 - 40 Km/h 2,2 s 1,4 s
    0 - 60 Km/h 3,6 s 2,9 s
    0 - 80 Km/h 5 s 4,6 s
    0 - 100 Km/h 7 s 6,7 s //62 mph
    0 - 120 Km/h 9,3 s 9,3 s
    0 - 140 Km/h 12,6 s 13 s
    0 - 160 Km/h 16 s 17,1 s //about 100 mph
    0 - 180 Km/h 22,6 s 23,4 s
    0 - 200 Km/h 28,4 s 32,8 s
    Top Speed 235 Km/h 238 Km/h

How come the Civic Type R is faster for speeds above 120km/h? Idun't understand.

  23. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

likely has to do with gear ratios, don't have time to find specs on S3 right now so I couldn't really say.

  24. Re: 200 hp fuel burner from factory isnt bad

Because the Civic has a higher power to weight ratio. The only reason the S3 gets ahead at the start is because it has all wheel drive, and therefore can dump the clutch without spinning wheels.

This is good evidence of why 1/4 mile and 0-60 times are pretty useless measures of performance - just because a car doesn't get off the line very quickly doesn't mean it isn't fast.
