200k milestone

  1. My beloved 2005 Pontiac Sunfire, that you guys all hate, just hit the 200,000 kms mark. Owned it for 10 years now and its been pretty good, so far. The only repairs I had to do on it since new, beside regular maintenance:

    1 front wheel bearing
    2 front struts assembly
1 igniter on the coil pack
    2 battery
    1 muffler bracket

That's it!! Not bad for a car that most people hate. Everything else has never been replace. Still got the all original manual tranny, engine, rear suspension, radiator, alternator, starter, water pump, etc...

Check engine only turned on 1 time and it was for a defective thermostat.

And I drive the thing hard, I'm not afraid to rev it up, go fast. There's no interior rattle, no vibration, shaking, nothing! It starts every time even at temperature below -30 Celcius.

    So, eat that!! <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/tongue.gif"></A>

  2. Lol jesus 10 years and only 200,000km now? The drivetrain in those is fairly solid it's just that they were mostly bought by shit heads who can't or won't maintain them so they rotted out.

My Civic is at 284,000 from 272xxx in January but now my head gasket is starting to go so...most likely swapping an engine ****

  3. >sunfire
    >go fast

    lol

  4. Oh, I thought it was your birthday

  7. Nearing 130000km for my -08 Cooper. Bushings are noisy at the back and brakes need new discs and pads soon. Exterior has stonechips, which I should pay more attention. Now running second summer tires which I bought this spring, original winter tires are fine for a few years.

The worst thing is I have somewhat neglected the need to fill oil, which it eats a bit. Ive read that this leads to chain problems in long run.
Propably needs that looked into before 200k.

Clutch may need bits too, as it now wears bit more due to the trailer, which is tows fine.

  8. Beloved and Sunfire in the same sentence <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/grin.gif"></A>

glad it was good on you though, reminds me of my Tercel tank!

  9. I've driven three of my cars after 200k miles

tbh I'm happy to have 198,543 miles between now and that milestone again

  10. About two years ago I rolled over 400k miles (643k km) in my Volvo. Will probably be a while until I hit 500k as I don't drive it that often anymore.

  11. Paid the thing $11,500 back then. I said to myself if it last 5 years, I'll be happy, but 10 its been really good, so far.

    Knock on wood.

  12. Around the same kms as my '02 Cooper S.
It's going to cost an arm and a leg in the near future though.

  13. Isn't that like 130k miles?

  14. Yeah, around 124k miles.

  15. 124k isn't that much. Give it 50k more and bump this thread again and see if its still going strong <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/tongue.gif"></A>

That is one clean dash btw

  16. that car is in fantastic shape. not a mark on it anywhere a couple years ago when I was last in Montreal

  17. Sure, I'll keep you updated.

I really hate driving a car with the interior that's dirty. I'm always cleaning it, especially inside.

  18. Merci. <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/smile.gif"></A>

But it got some nicks and brusses(Sp?)
Windshield got a couple of little star cracks, front cover bumper got alot of stonechips and one big scratch on it, front left fender on the bottom part behind the wheel got a big dent, a long scratch from a shopping cart on the left rear door.

And the best part, no rust on it! The only visible rust are the wiper arms, but most GM cars does that.

  19. from all that time being driven in quebec I would still call that extremely good shape

  20. Yea, it sounds like it. I'd buy it at 124k as a beater.

  21. They're generally OK cars as long as you look at them for what they are, cheap, basic A-B transportation. Probably a few grand less than what a Civic would have cost you at the same time, and does just the same job.

  22. I'll be posting my 200k miles on my vw diesel soon

    miles > km <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/smile.gif"></A>

  23. did you see the guy who had 1,000,000 on his volvo so they used it in a commercial and gave him a brand new one?

  24. there's quite a few people who have gotten past that in their Volvo. Unless you're talking about the guy that's done 3 million on his.

  25. maybe it was 3,000,000.... my brain is fried
