  1. i mean Daytona

I cant help but think how much this race has fallen from even 10-15 years ago.

Another year with no one in the stands

Another year with the terrible Daytona Prototypes

NASCAR practically bans any Corvette from competing

Obnoxious "safety" rule with DP and GT cars starting separately, this was obviously done so GT cars are put at a huge disadvantage.

Roval racing sucks, really really sucks

    Oh a repaved surface,

Daytona in nothing compared to LeMans, or even Sebring.
  2. Agreed. I really hate the DPs. I got flamed hardcore for hating on a DP that was posted in the classifieds forum, but I'll stand by what I said. I think DPs are the worst/least exciting class of sports prototypes that I know of.
  3. Nascar doesn't ban Corvettes, GM uses each different road racing series to promote a different product. Underneath the skin, the car is just a tube frame farce, they've bolted GTO.R, GXP.R, Corvette and now Camaro bodywork onto those same chassis.

DPs have definitely not gotten ANY prettier over the years though.
  4. #$%#you Bill France.
  5. It's not just that they're ugly. The thing that pisses me off is that they're all so similar. They're also slow compared to other prototype classes.
  6. Flying Lizard entering a DP with 3 REALLY fast pros out of 4 drivers was one of the only reasons I've been watching. Unfortunately, the 1 other guy is the shitty team owner and they don't stand a chance of winning with him driving...
  7. Haha, Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell qualified 9th.

If some chubby middle aged ex-F1 drivers can do well, it would make the sport look ridiculous.
  8. Dont care until next year...
  9. wtus nxet yaer?
  10. Go Riley chassis's!!
  11. More GT cars coming in such as the Ferrari 458, Audi R8 and Mercedes SLS.

Also they say big updates for the DPs to make them better looking and look more like the cars their engines are from.
  12. nice, that sounds like exactly what this series needs
  13. oh look a NASCAR style finish as well.
  14. green white checkered?
  15. yeah

  17. Well do we know for sure that THOSE specific cars will be showing up? As far as I've read its just GT3 specs...
  18. just like nascar, football (american) or any other "boring" sport watched on tv, you have to be there to know.
  19. Finally.

The 458 will be for sure. They had a press conference about it. It will be based on the GT3 car, but it will be a specific Grand Am spec car. The story on dailysportscar.com (probably THE best sports car racing site in existence) mentioned talks were also happening to bring over the R8 and SLS. The current GT cars will still be there too so it won't just become a GT3 class, but there should be some new additions that are real sports racing cars, rather than these tube frame farces that run now.

And here's an article about some of the POSSIBLE changes they're going to make to DPs to make the more interesting: http://nascar.speedtv.com/article/grand-am-marshall-pruett-revised-rolex-series-set-for-2012/ They definitely look nicer in these renderings than they ever have in the last 8 years.

There are also rumors that eventually, DP will become DTM in America and we'd eventually have a series where DTM and GT3 cars were on track together. I would be down for that ten fold over what they have now.
  21. rabbit, I'm with you. I care about GrandAm THIS year just because of the news for next year.

And the DTM thing is supposed to happen in 2013 I've heard. DTM itself, V8 Supercar and Grand Am (from what I remember) are all making changes and supposedly all doing THE SAME THING as eachother. So there will be a worldwide same as same DTM series.

But what I dont get from your above post, is the DP becoming DTM? Why would the Daytona Prototypes become the DTM sport cars? Unless I'm missing somehting...
  22. Exactly. I know there was a private owner of a GXP.R that had Corvette bodywork put on, and it raced like that for a wile. But since the Camaro's where decided to be ran in Grand AM, GM paid for the guys vehicle to be converted over to a camaro.
  23. It's a rumor that in time, Grand Am will adopt DTM cars in place of DPs sometime in the future. Not sure if it'll happen like that, but it's a thought.
  24. If Grand Am does adopt the DTM car for 2013, I can't see them changing the bodywork for 2012. The cost would be a bit much for many of the teams, and then all new cars for 2013?

I say go straight to DTM type cars.
