  1. Decision expected this year

By JAMES FRANEY, AUTOMOTIVE NEWS EUROPE

BMW will decide by the end of the year if it will sell engines and other components to General Motors and other rival automakers, says Friedrich Eichiner, the carmaker's board member for corporate and brand development.

When asked if BMW is talking to GM, Daimler and Fiat about supplying engines, Eichiner said: "We are talking with those companies you mentioned."

BMW will decide by the end of the year because "it does not make sense to go on talking and talking forever," Eichiner told Automotive News Europe on the sidelines of a press event here.

Selling engines and other components to other automakers is part of BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer's Number One strategic plan to boost the carmaker's profitability.

In February, German media reports said BMW is looking for potential customers for engines and transmissions.

Until now, the company had not confirmed that it is talking with GM, Daimler and Fiat.

  2. German engineering > all

  3. BMW uses some GM gearboxes, so now you could get a GM car with a BMW engine and GM gearbox just as you could now get a BMW with a BMW engine and GM gearbox.

  4. Yes, please.

  5. in before ... "Gm should buy the interior instead"

  6. lol, BMW should sell them more than that

  7. LOL.

GM should buy the complete car.

  8. the last GM gearbox (always autos, not manuals) was the last 3 series I think

  9. If they whore out like that, I will boycott BMW

  10. I'm sure that will crush them considering how many BMWs you buy currently.

  11.
  12. V10 Corvette hehe.

  13. GM makes better high performance motors, but could use a sweet small diesel or something.

  14. I would like to see that comparo
I will agree the LS 7 is fantastic, but when is the last time GM made a F1 engine or supercar engine. *stokes fire*

  15. Lets see Germany go to the moon.

  16. lol

  18. The LS7 is better than many supercar motors. Its the cost of most of their crankshafts, smaller, lighter, and makes as much if not more power, over a larger band at that. whats not to love?

oh yeah, AND ITS SEVEN LITERS.

Formula one engines have nothing to do with roadgoing motors at all.

  19. It also manages better fuel economy than any supercar engine I can think of.

  20. YOU HAVE THE ARCANE KNOWLEDGE OF THE ALIMGIHTY LS&?

HOLY POOPY STICK, BRING MY SCRIBE.

  21. although GM could use a small efficient diesel, the first part of your sentence was horrifically wrong. appalling, really

  22. whoring out some motor will just give BMW more $$$ for R&D, more power to them... im shocked hearing that they used GM gearboxs in the 3er <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/sad.gif"></A> <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/sad.gif"></A>

  23. OMG CONSPIRACY !!!

  24. prove the first part wrong, please. Its a lighter, physically smaller, less expensive, larger displacement, more powerful, fuel efficient motor with a better power band than any high performance motor BMW currently produces.

  25. what engine are you talking about...the LS7??
