BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

Discussion in '2003 Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG' started by benzv8, Jul 5, 2003.

  1. What can I say?
AMG V8 the Performance Engine of the Year for the V8 Kompressor AMG models.
The "All Mighty" M3 is 3rd, the so-called "Drivers" car.
(I'm not bagging the M3, I love it. Just the people who were dumb enough to say "BMW kills Mercedes")
The jury consists of 50 people, being represented by 22 different countries.
This is the most prominent results available in the world today.
All I have to say to the annoying BMW fans that seem to only have bad words about Mercedes is; Kiss my *$$.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not being derogatory toward BMW only the so called fans who would consider Mercedes to be "crap."

    Results : (x) = points
    1. Mercedes-Benz AMG V8 (138)

PLEASE NOTE: I don't hate BMW's only people who think BMW are the best and Mercedes just suck, which these results prove otherwise.

The SL is by no means a bad car, in fact its awesome. Though its zero to sixty time is in the same spectrum as the M3. The M3 is $50,000 where the SL is twice that. I would think drivers who want to feel the road and want a car built around the engine want a BMW such as the Z8. Compared to the cushy and refined drive of the Mercedes. But BMW is by no means a poor mans Mercedes the Z8 (which I assume is in the same class as the V8 SL55 AMG) matchs it and has better Handling. I think its more a matter of taste then Money.
    (SL55 amg - 135,000)
    (Z8 - 130,000)

both cars are great. the M3 is a drivers car cause the handling is superb. but these cars are in different classes. the m3 would have no chance but its still a fascinating car and its away cheaper

  5. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

Are you sure the M3 doesn't have a very similiar 0-60? the SL55 only does like 0-60 in 4.3 or something right?

  6. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

yeah 0-60 but 0-200Km/H ? (dont know miles) its like 480 against 333 HP.

  7. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

The SL55 can do from 0-60 mph in 4.3 sec but the BMW M3 can only do it in 4.7 sec.

Ah well, the Mercedes reliability is below average, so you're gonna need that extra money for when its in the shop and you need a second car.

  11. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

Actually Mercedes reliability is above average and it's a good car. And you can stop hating Mercedes.

  12. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

I don't hate Mercedes, they just have below average reliability. And they are made for old people.

    Angus

  13. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

Not old people, also for young people. You think they only make automatic transmission but they also make manual gear shifters on the steering wheels. They're better than manual transmission. And what makes you think they have below average reliability?

  14. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

    They are for old people.

    Look at the attached image.

  15. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

So, it doesn't tell me anything except industry.

  16. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

Clearly you aren't worth arguing with.

  17. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

    What!?

  18. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

Hey Angus, it's been a while. Anyway, I've been hearing some bad things about the new E-Class's reliability; however, Mercedes has a reputation for overall good build quality. Your arguement that AMGs only appeal to the elderly is quite bland. Why would an old person drive 500bhp cars? The only way I'd figure that AMGs appeal to an older age group is because younger people cannot afford them. Even if AMG's cars appeal to an older age group (which is not completely true), does that make the cars bad performers or mean they're not good
cars? Ferraris definitely appeal to an older age group (due to its price like the AMGs) yet they still make the most beautiful cars around.

  19. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

Yeah, did you see that picture that I attached, its on the 1st page, shows the industry average, and Mercedes is below average, thats why I say Mercedes reliablity is below average. Maybe it will come up, maybe it won't, who knows with Daimler at the helm.

For the age thing, they are catered to older people, for one reason you're right, its because only older people can afford them. It doesn't make the car any better or worse, it just changes the demographic they are going after. While Ferrari makes cars that young people want but only old people can afford. IE the manual gearbox, rougher ride, etc.

  20. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

yeah, there goes the idiot again!! who are you to say that mercedes reliability is below average?????? you're just a stupid moron, everyone knows that mercedes are the most reliable and trusted cars in the world. you're just some stupid child. come on !! you actually think a BMW have better Reliability??? MORON!

  21. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

Angus is actually correct in that aspect; at least according to the latest reliability statistics. It came as a shocker to me as Mercedes is well-known for their superb build quality. Oh well, if Mercedes still sells the vast amount of cars with the prices they charge, they have to be doing something right. I still think that Mercedes/AMG has done an awesome job on the new '03 AMGs and many other car enthusiasts would agree with me.

  22. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

I see you're not even capable of reading a chart. Good for you, next time you want to insult me, make sure you aren't making yourself look like a total idiot, and making me look a lot better.

    Angus

  23. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

get over it, how can you be so sure about the credibility of the chart anyway??

It is known that mercedes has a very good reliability, I can show u plenty of magazines and awards that can proove my poin, if you want to.

  24. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

The JD Power and Associates, so its very credible.

  25. Re: BMW, The poor mans Mercedes

We don't need magazines for you to prove your non-existant point. Experiance and testimonials weigh much, much more. And the JD is pretty much, one helluva big, scientifically conducted survey.
