CSL versus 911 GT3

Discussion in '2002 BMW M3 CSL Concept' started by BMW Freak, Oct 26, 2002.

  1. Maybe u guys think this is a stupid topic, but BMW's mission is to beat the Gt3 with the Csl. wich one is the best on track and road?

well, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS has a 3.6L flat and rear 6 engine with 420 hp
    the regular GT3 has 360hp
weight of the porsche is 1350kgs
    max speed 300 km/h
    0-60 in 4.5 seconds?

    bmw has a 3.2L engine with 360hp
    1300kgs
    bmw 0-60 in 4.3 seconds

i'd pick the bmw on this one

The CSL should come close. Can't say too much until the CSL is released. I'm just amazed at how versatile that Porsche Flat-6 is...terrific stuff.

  4. Re: CSL versus 911 GT3

the production model will be nothing like the this one showed.
it still will have the 350hp (27hp upgrade) power, but its weight will be 3100 lbs.
signifantly lighter around 220 lbs than than the normal M3, but no where near to this concept.
however i most admit the MSRP at around $54K wouldn't be that bad.
woud be interested to see a racing version, if it doesn't get banned again.

  5. Re: CSL versus 911 GT3

Banned? WEll that all depends on wherever the person is racing it.

Obviously it will get banned competing with go-karts...

    Anyone remember the M3-R?

  6. Re: CSL versus 911 GT3

I think the CSL could also go so far as to show GT2-esque times, in straight-line terms. Different story in a track environment, but still impressive. According to Motor Magazine, the CSL should do 0-100kmh in around 4.2 seconds, and a standing quarter of around 12.5 seconds. And I have no doubt that a racing version would start the Porsche AG team in ALMS wailing their heads off again...honestly, you can't tell me that Porsche hasn't got the resources to deal with such a threat, now that the Cayenne V8 is on the brink of release.

  7. Re: CSL versus 911 GT3

Porsche is better on the track. As for the road......I dunno. But I'd rather have a Porsche over any BMW............unless it's a 1999 V12 LMR!:)

  8. Re: CSL versus 911 GT3

nah, I don't think a csl could take on a GT2, he's just to fast with a 102hp difference. Mybe the csl could keep up to 60, but after that the Gt2 drives him away.

  10. Re: CSL versus 911 GT3

the production version has beaten the GT3 around the ring

  11. Re: CSL versus 911 GT3

I would rather the GT3 over that any day!!! From a big BMW fan

  13. Re: CSL versus 911 GT3

The Beemer should win this one but it would be pretty close!!!

  14. Re: CSL versus 911 GT3

The CSL would beat the GT3 without a doubt in my mind but there are definitely other porsche's that could handle this beautiful machine.

  15. Re: CSL versus 911 GT3

I have 3 things to say here:
    1. The horizontally opposed 6 in the GT3 RS does NOT put out 420hp, the 911 turbo with a twin turbo charged 3.6 litre 24 valve quad cam boxer (same engine only two turbos) puts out 420hp. The RS has 381hp and the GT3 has the same, 381hp. Which is still farking heeps for a naturally aspirated 3.6 litre boxer!
    2. I would rather have both cars, they are too nice to chose between, the csl faster but both equally as nice... ohh i cant chose.
    3. AshenShadow i love your little note thing "HSV - I just towed one" thats some funny stuff man i like it.
