I think that the F40 looks better because all its lines are shaped nicely, but dislike the F50 because it is open. I think that they should have made a closed version of the F50.
Performance wise, the F50 would win in a straight line because it has a V12 and the F40 has a V8.
In a race track situation, if both cars were evenly mathched with evenly skilled drivers the F50 would win because it has a more advanced suspension system.

  3. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

Actually, despite the V8, the F40 is slightly faster in a straight line, but with the engine-mounted suspension, the F50 is far, far superior to the F40, which doesn't even have power steering and feels like it's going to explode at any speed above 150 mph. I think that the F50 is way better looking than the F40, which looks like a Ferrari Enzo '80s style. The F50, in my opinion, is the greatest-looking car that has ever been built. The F40 was a muscle car, but the F50 was a supercar.

  4. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

The F40 is to me better because look it does 0-60 mhp in 3,8 sec and topspeed of 324 kph with 478 bhp and for the F50 it does 0-60 mph in 3.7 sec and topspeed of 325 kph with 520 bhp. So the F40 has less HP and has quite the same performance. Thats my opinion.

  5. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

The above echos my feeling except for one point. The F50 was THE supercar.

  6. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

If you race these cars, it would be very close. The F40 does 201.3 mph and the F50 202.0 mph. In the 1/4 mile the F50 loses of 0.3 seconds. 0-60 mph, the F50 is 0.1 second faster. the 0-100 mph is the same for both, 8.0 seconds. And it doesn't mean that the F50 as a V12 that it automatically beats the F40 because it has a V8 (twin turbo V8),for example the jaguar XJ220 as a V6 and can easily compite vs these ferraris in acceleration and would crush them in top speed. So realy the only way to know who would win is to make ferrari race them with their best racers.

    in summary:

F50 has better handling but you can wind the F40 engine up for more power.

as for looks, that's your own opinion.

  9. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

The F40 is better. The power to weight ratio is better for the F40.

  10. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

    NSX, your pretty smart.

  11. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

Power to weight ratio doesn't take into account the cars handling, and the properties of the engine's torque distribution.

  12. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

Just like you said, i also love both cars, but in my opinion, the F40 doesnt look that great, it looks as if the designers took a giant block, and just put some indents into it, this car is fast and does look pretty good, but i just love the F50 some much. Its been my favorite car for a long time. I just love the front, how it slides up into the windshield, and I love the back also, the lights make the car look great, even though both the F50 and F40 have similar backs to them, the F50 is better in my opinion.

  13. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

Without even looking at the stats on the F40, you should be able to tell that the F50 is better. The stats may be close, the F50 as far as handling goes, is much better, every car from Ferrari exeeds its predecessor. (or atleast its supposed to)

  14. Re:

One thing that no one else mentioned is the twin turbos in the F40. When racing on a track sometimes its hard to control that boost in power. The F50 is N/A which makes it 'smooth' acceleration all the way through the revs, its eaiser to accelerate through the turns. Either way I would still rather have an F40.

  16. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

Depends what you'd rather have. Both marvelous cars
The F50 is Rarer than The F40
    349 F50's made compared with 1,311.
F50 Much Rarer F40 more common both Great Cars
I love the F50 so much more though.

  17. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

The F50 looks more aerodynamic but that goes without saying as the car is I believe 8 years newer then the F40. The F40 is still an amazing car but the F40 interior looks bare compared to the F50. The F50 looks much more comfortable in the interior. Both of these cars are pure badass but if I had a choice I would go with the F50.

  18. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

The F50's body isn't that great. You can see the weaves of the carbonfibre threw the paint, no interior at all, not even carpets. But everything’s go-go-go, the aerodynamics of the F50 is great. There's no rubber in the suspension so it turns pronominally smooth and fast. It compares to a 1990 Formula 1 Racing Car.

    Ferrari F1:
    Engine: V12 3498cc
    BHP: 730
    Top Speed: 206 MPH
    0-60: 3.0 MPH
    0-100: 3.4 MPH

    Ferrari F50:
    Engine: V12 4698cc
    BHP: 513
    Top Speed: 202
    0-60: 3.7 MPH
    0-100: 4.8

It's astonishing how close it can keep up at 160 MPH to the F1. The F50 is slower then the F40, it's slower because it had sound restrictions of 8500 RPM so it’s been daubed by compromisers and politics. Ferrari had to make a weaker car which made the car slower. The F50 handles better and is rarer. I would take the F40 for a museum, and a F50 for racing, but overall I would prefer a Ferrari 360.

  19. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

    4.8 typo???

  20. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

Before i say anythin i want to refer to that idiot at the begining of this forum ELFMAN who stated that the f40 in a sraight line is slower because it has a v8.Well sir im sorry to inform u but u know nothing about car if u make that kind of a statement.2nd the Ferrari f40 will tare the F50 apart in a sraight line. The f40 is far superior when it comes to respect, history, and a driving experience......an experience that iv heard people will say not even a McLaren F1 will ever give u.On a track though the f50 will destroy an f40,and it is also an easier car to drive, very easy actually. So it is disturbingly fast but if you are the treu car enthusiast i think the f40 has a lilttle bit more prestige and attitude. The f50 was not as succesful as the f40 and by far not as popular.......but evryone has their taste....for me?i'll take the f40 on the highway...and the f50 would be my town car.

  21. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

the f40 has a better power to weight ratio but the F50 kinda makes up for it with its superior handling and its suspension is attached to the gear box

  22. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

F40 all the way. I heard its the greatest driving experience you can have, from a stock car, EVER. I heard its more fun and better to drive than a McLaren F1. The F50 looks more like a girl car...in my opinion. i think the F40 is better than the f50 and the enzo. Theres just something magical about it....just like "oh, f50" but if you hear f40..its like DAMN, F40!! its just like the car, its one of the best cars that you can have, even tho it was made 12 years ago. and it doesnt hurt that its actually faster than the f50, and it actually handles just as well as the f50, as ive seen ina movie at my friends house. and also, ive seen the f40 in real life, and wow, holy shit, that car is freakin beautiful.

  23. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

THEy do Have a HARD_TOP version of the F50 but, Either way you don't have to remove the top,lol and it looks like it doesn't even come off
    With the top on.
    UMm anyways Imports Rule!!!!!!!

OH yeah I have a video of a F50 Being tested on a track and they got
these numbers out of it( I couldn't believe my eyes)
well 0-60mph was 3.7 which is what this website says too but 0-100MPH was 4.8 not 8.0 I think like it says over here on supercars.net those numbers are way off!
    4.8 sec 0-100MPH WOW un#$%#ingbelieveble ,lol
    I love this car!
IT also said it makes even the MClaren F1 feel like it has too much body roll in comparison, lol to the F50

    well that's it i'm done Can I go now,lol

  24. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

    That's because the F40 was lighter .

  25. Re: curious about both F40 and F50 *no kids, serious car ppl onl

IT's no typo dude I have a video of the F50 racing Alan Prost's
1990 formula 1 RAce car,the formula 1 wins of course but the F50 was surprisingly close, lol
anyways it says 0-100mph 4.8 how could that have been a typo?
I couldn't believe it either heh

    UMM anyways Imports Rule

And I'd take the F50 over the F40 anyday although I love both cars.
