Check this out, Detroit, Michigan - Perhaps the oddest vehicle introduced in Detroit on Monday was the V10 powered Dodge Tomahawk concept. This four-wheel, single-passenger vehicle has a 500-horsepower Viper V-10 engine powering the dual rear wheels which gives it a potential top speed of nearly 400 miles per hour, "for anyone who wants to test it," says the company. Its 0 to 60 mph time is estimated at 2.5 seconds.

"The Dodge brand philosophy always challenges us to grab life by the horns," said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President - Design, Chrysler Group. "In the case of Tomahawk, grabbing and holding onto anything for dear life is a necessity."

Initial reaction to the concept vehicle came in two words: "Wow" and "why." "This is a bold faced slap against mediocrity," Creed said. "Tomahawk is a scintillating example of what creative minds can do when given the opportunity to run free. It is a pure mechanical sculpture and a joyous celebration of the artistry and emotion of design."

I've seen that, it's basically a 4 wheeled motorcyle. I still have yet to figure out just how they figure it would hit 400mph with just 500 hp/torque, as it appears to have the aerodynamics of a brick. Not that it's possible for anyone to actually hold on and control it at 400mph anyway.

3. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

they just said 300+ mph

4. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

Not that nebody would want to ride that fast, although i would, but a top speed like that will get it alot if attention and a lot of people will talk about it. It might also set a new standard.

5. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

Top speed. Right now everybody talks about the sledgehammer vette doin 254, so instead they would talk about this.

6. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

Rocket cars have broken the sound barrier, no new standards to be set here.

Also, I still very highly doubt this car's ability to hit 400mp/h, or even 400km/h.

7. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

Khari, THAT IS A ROCKET CAR!!!! This dodge concept is an internal combustion car!!!! Do you see the difference? An internal comb. engine doing 400 mph is amazing!

8. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

you would have to have stablizing rods and wheels in the front and back of the car. Plus, the driver would have to wear some sort of plastic suit to avoid getting sliced by the wind.

9. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

I'm still very skeptical of the car's quoted top speed (espescially when taken into account it's quoted acceleration). The Viper, with the exact same engine can't even hit 200mph, and seeing this thing lack a roof or doors of any kind it would have very hard pressed to even manage the same as the Viper.

400mph for an internal combustion is impressive, but far from amazing. 80s Drag racers could do the same (and much more) if geared properly. If they were able to produce it, then I would call it amazing.

I thought it was a motorcycle when I first saw it in the paper, but turns out it was just a bad pic. I'm not sure what I'd call it.

11. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

its a car you lay on, its got a rear driveshaft, and axles. yes moto guzzi has a driveshaft but its connected to just one wheel. anyways, there's no way that you could hold on at those speeds, there's no aerodynamic bodywork. The bodywork does at least three things, it deflects the wind so you can hold on, it keeps the vehicle on the ground at high speeds, and it protects the tired from turbulence. at those speeds just the treads moving through the air causes so much aerodynamic unstability you would flip the "bike" over

12. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

Well the picture i got it looks like a Bike...
and i'm not into Bikes...

13. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

Any one who thinks this bike cant hit 400mph is an idiot, I have been working as a mechanic for Ferrari for 15 years, think about it this bike has almost no weight to it and 500 horsepower, that is a power to weight ratio that resembles top fuel dragsters. it cant weight more then 1500 pounds and has 500 horsepower, most pro drag bikes has less power, and they hit 340mph in a 1/4 mile strech

14. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

Your doubtfull that this will even hit 400km/h? Your ridiculous. Once all the specs come out, look at the power to weight ratio, then come back and express you opinion. It will definitly be changed.

15. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

1) It won't be overly light (for the kind of vehicle it is). The Viper engine alone is heavy enough, so I would guess 700-800kg, if not a bit more.

2)Weight is nearly irrelevant when determining top speed.

3) There are no road tires that could possibly survive 400 mp/h, and also no way the rider could possibly hang on and stay in control of it anywhere near those speeds.

16. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

Top fuel dragsters have upwards of 10 000 hp. I don't know about weight, but there is nothing that even comes close to rivaling their power/weight ratio.

17. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

I believe a Top Fuel dragster has about 6000 - 7000 hp.
No need to exagerate...

18. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

yeah 10,000 horse power seems like alot...

19. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

He was talking about bike dragsters anyway.

20. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

10,000 horse power on a bike...thats even more crazy!

21. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

A 93 Dodge Funny car put out 6000hp, I think a 2002 top fuel will put out quite a bit more. maybe it isn't quite 10 000, but a lot more than 6000 I garuntee you that.

22. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

Am i the only 1 'ere who sees a bike that goes 400mph crazy...?

23. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

i've found that some land speed record bikes can go 300+mph. so maybe, (by a long shot) this bike could do 400.

24. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

and do u think u'd have to be just a lit'l crazy to do that kind of speed on a bike...?

25. Re: DODGE TOMAHAWK

if i had the room to hit 400 in a car i would but not a bike, if the winds start up, your screwed, unless you put on a parachute
