F1 Brazil: Arcanjo

Discussion in 'Motorsports' started by Arcanjo, Nov 2, 2008.

  1. First and foremost - look at the scoreboard.
    Hamilton - 97 points
    Massa - 96 points

Now, there is little I can do to discredit Felipe's performance this year, and I don't wish to do so anyway because he has been fantastic, and also proved himself to be a great sport today. However, I do believe Hamilton has driven the better championship year. In a car which I believe to be ever-so-slightly inferior to the Ferrari, he's been the fastest guy out there, and driven in the most competitive manner out of anyone. Although his agression has cost him at certain points, I think it's also shown he's had the greatest will to win this year. He wanted to make amends for 2007, and he's done it in crazy fashion.

Again today we saw hamilton get #$%#-all support from his teammate. Even in the first lap when I thought Heikki might have been able to keep Vettel and Alonso off Hamilton's back for a few laps, I was almost immediately proven wrong as he fell behind.

Meanwhile, Raikkonen was AGAIN up near the front to drive another wedge and more points between Massa and Hamilton. It's happened plenty of times this season, and then we saw Raikkonen move over for Massa in China. That kind of teammate support is a massive advantage, and Hamilton has had near zero support from Kovalainen this year, making the task all the harder.

Then the FIA comes into question. Two majorly dodgy decisions by the FIA in the final rounds kept Massa's championship chances going when, realistically, it all should have been over after China. If it weren't for the Belgium ruling, Hamilton would have been 13 points in front. And that doesn't even take into account what happened at Mt Fuji.

Now people might point the finger at Ferrari's mistakes and unreliability throughout the season as an excuse for Massa not winning the WDC. But what these people seem to forget is that what makes a 'deserving' WDC is both a combination of driver, car, and team. Otherwise, for example, Senna/Prost would have 'deserved' every championship between ~1983 and 1993. It's Ferrari's own mistakes that were costly, and in those races Hamilton kept his nose clean to take full advantage.

Either way, both great drivers and great performance from both today in difficult conditions. But I'm happy with the outcome<A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/smile.gif"></A>

  2. Hamilton got passed by Vettel. That alone makes me think Massa deserves the title more. Hamilton seems to have won a few times out of luck, whereas both Kimi and Massa have had a tough year with cars giving up on them. Sure they also made a few mistakes, but none as unacceptable as what Hamilton(as a WDC) had.

Not saying he's less talented, but I just think we need a much more convincing manner of taking the championship title for any driver next season.

  3. No, as to the "deserving" part you're wrong. WDC is exactly that - DRIVER'S championship. That's why there are separate titles - WDC and WCC. Maybe McL DESERVED to get the WCC, because they performed better as the TEAM. Like you wrote yourself, Massa's season was more than once compromised by Ferrari messing up. Outright winning the WDC is what you are mistaking for deserving.

And as to the support Massa got from Raikkonen... are you joking? It was only in the last 2 or 3 races that he was helping Massa - ONLY when it was ABSOLUTELY impossible, from a mathematical point of view, for him to get the title. Before that there was no such help in any form that LH didn't get from HK.

  4. I personally think winning a race should be worth more than just 2 more points from second. Old points system was better, the person that won more races actually won the title.

  5. Yeah, sucks. Good for Hamilton though...

  6. I was like OMG Hamilton's gonna choke 2 years in a row...

Seriously if Massa had won I would have been uncontrollable.

  7. Because unfortunately F1 has a sub par point system, that most fans have been dissing it since it was implemented.

  8. Yeah great. Why don't we just do away with the points system altogether and give the WDC to whoever some douchebag Ferrari fanboy thinks deserved it.

Accept it, Lewis - WDC. He is your champion! Kneel before him!<A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/tongue.gif"></A>

  9. if they still used the old points system. massa would have won. Lewis is a great driver. It's just sad to see his talent is wasted in a Mclaren.I have serious hatred for that team. Especially since the spy scandal last year.

  10. The person with the most number of legitimate wins won. What's your problem?

  11. I like the part of the point system where 8 people can get points instead of six. The should get the point system from motorcycle racing.

Pitty for Coulthard, wanted him to finish the race.

  12. What victory does Massa have that isn't legitimate?

  13. simple, they should give 12 points to winner of the race.

  14.
  15. Arcanjo is probably dead

  16. Yeah, what a bummer that Coulthard didn't even got to make one lap <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/sad.gif"></A>

  17. how can you guys get so hyped up at F1 so much nowadays

  18. Kneel? Wouldn't let him kneel before me.

TBH neither LH or FM deserved the title - I think the best driver throughout the whole season was Kubica. Very consistent and good performance.. look how far he got compare to his team mate, who was cosidered the no 1 driver in the team. Points-wise he was third, while Heidfeld got sixth. Had he been in McL or Ferrari he would now be the WDC.

PS Douchebag Ferrari fanboy, LOL. Did you miss the part where I wrote McL deserved the WCC? Yeah... very fanboy-like.

  19. fanboys

  20. Do you really have to ask?

  21. So you blame Massa for a mistake made by Hamilton. True that the penalty was harsh because he would have eventually overtaken kimi, but it was still his own fault.

To you every time a Ferrari driver is penalized they get what they deserve, but when it's a mclaren driver that gets it it's all a huge conspiracy. You would made a wonderful jury.

  22. I'm not blaming Massa for anything--I just don't see how any rational human being can think he legitimately won that race in Belgium. Had not the stewards wrongfully intervened, this championship would have been over in China or perhaps even Japan.

And Ferrari drivers almost never get penalized when they screw up, which only adds fuel to the fire.

  23. I've come to the conclusion that you enjoy being an idiot.

  24. "Had not the stewards wrongfully intervened" They didn't wrongly intervene. Hamilton took advantage over a situation he shouldn't. I may not agree with the penalty, but I agree with the verdict.

Ferrari drivers never get penalized? Are you sure? Go review the season.

  25. I can't believe how many time's I've watched the replay again haha.

Brundle: "Raikkonen's third and... IS THAT GLOCK??! IS THAT GLOCK GOING SLOWLY?"

Allen: "It is! It's Glock! Oh my goodness me, Hamilton is back in position!"
