**** you, frenchie's.

PARIS (Reuters Life!) – French tourists are the worst in the world, coming across as bad at foreign languages, tight-fisted and arrogant, according to a survey of 4,500 hotel owners across the world.

They finish in last place in the survey carried out for internet travel agency Expedia by polling company TNS Infratest, which said French holidaymakers don't speak local languages and are seen as impolite.

"It's mainly the fact that they speak little or no English when they're abroad, and they don't speak much of the local language," Expedia Marketing Director Timothee de Roux told radio station France Info.

"The French don't go abroad very much. We're lucky enough to have a country which is magnificent in terms of its landscape and culture," he said, adding that 90 per cent of French people did their traveling at home.

"So when they're on holiday they can be a bit stressed, they're not used to things, and this can lead them to be demanding in a way which could be seen as a certain arrogance."

French tourists are also accused of generally spending less than other nationalities when abroad.

De Roux said the French, not accustomed to leaving large tips at home where a service charge is automatically levied on restaurant bills, can seem "tight-fisted" compared with other nationalities.

The Japanese ranked top of the Best Tourist survey, with the British and the Germans judged the best of the Europeans.

But French tourists received some consolation for their poor performance, finishing third after the Italians and British for dress sense while on holiday.

2. Lol, the British among the best? No offence to the members here but the British tourists I came across in the past where always drunk, loud and rude.

And a lot of the Dutch don't speak local languages either.

edit: and apparently the Russians are terrible too.
3. Seeing how British and Germans behave on Mallorca makes me wonder how either of these two can perform well in such statistics :)
4. Hang on, British tourists were in the top 2 for best dressed on holiday?! WHAT THE #$%#?!
5. Every time I have run across a British tourist, they keep to themselves and they are well mannered. The bit about the French is true.

7. There was a similar survey a couple years ago that had the Brits at the bottom. It was posted here.
8. Downtown San Francisco is infested w/ French tourists.
9. Lol yeah I was immediately thinking the British should be classified the worst tourists.

No mention of Americans in there, but they are in fact probably among the best tourists. They are usually polite and respectful... though can be a bit stupid at times.
10. Ya British tourists are by far the worst. Frenchies generally behave well and are a bit reserved but totally fine in my book. Asians and Murkhans are also cool.
11. The survey that I mentioned had Germans and Americans at the top.
12. No wai. Germans are noisy.
13. haha whatever, people from USA are FAR worst. I never met an asshole French tourist, I've met hundreds of stupid ass rednecks.
14. Nayyyy Amurkans are nice.
15. americans are the best tourists. san francisco is filled to the seams with them and they all speak the language and are very polite, tipping well and such
16. French are completely terrible.
Though there should be age brackets for such surveys. I've met lots of under 30 British people in various places (except anywhere there's football, obviously) and they've all been totally rad. Same with young Germans too. But old Germans/British are nearly as bad as French.
17. NZ/Australia generally attracts the right sort of young, English tourist. If you'd gone to Spain or Greece, you'd think differently.
19. i think in the end there's probably not much difference between nations. if you went to mexico like cancun you wouldn't hold young americans in the highest regard, ditto australians in thailand or bali, poms on mediteranian islands, germans, dutch whatever. if they're 18-30 and at a popular holiday destination everybody acts the same - like pack of pissed up idiots. its just how it is. if you go beyond these age groups and these destinations i'm sure big differences start to emerge.

that's pretty crazy that 90% of french prefer to travel within france.
20. I've never acted like an idiot when on vacation. Always tried to speak the language too.
21. french people really is arrogant
22. Even the English I met in Nepal were rad (though pretty much all tourists there are there for the same reason and the same kind of people). Though in saying that, all the total tossers I met there were older French (one guy in particular was absolutely horrible), older Germans (met a rad younger German couple) and Israelis (they don't travel well in groups).

Basically, English that start going anywhere within 3 hours flying time are starting to get acceptable.
23. brittish / american people are WAY WAY WAY worse.
24. Depends of which French tourists you are talking, if they are people from maghreb or blacks that come from the shittiest places and suburbs of France, then I will have to agree. I have also been told when I was in the USA in 1999, that the French people from the Haute Bourgeoisie are very arrogant and can't speak English properly not even write a single basic sentence.
The worst tourist are the Brits, they are obnoxiously loud, noisy, unbearable and trashy dressed, I have seen their obnoxious behaviour when I was in Amsterdam and in Mainz. I have also seen some African American in Amsterdam and in Paris when I was shopping, dressed like good ghetto boyz of the Watts with Nike or Adidas sportswear and their shiity caps. They were loud and they stank.
The coolest and most disciplined tourists I have encountered in Paris were Germans, Swedes, Estonians, Finns and Norwegians. Dressed neatly and their English is very good, most of the time without an accent. The Dutch are some of the funniest and friendliest tourists I have encountered in Mainz as well as in New York in 1996.
25. Tourists who are nice and relaxed, the people you can just chill out with are nice regardless of where they come from or how good their "English" is. A little french/jamaican accent is just sexy. Old couples who have their shorts so high that the waistline is touching their nipples and one of them is possibly named Heinrich are usually bad, as are the kind of tourists who travel in paCks like live animal ****s and the ones who have a pod of whining kids with them.

Have met many nice and not so nice people from everywhere. It's the type, not the country.
