  1. Attempted suicide, and well, he 'succeeded' in the end. He tried to knock himself out with exhaust gas from his car, later his neighbour found him and called the authorities. They were able to bring him back, and took him to the hospital. This is part of an email my mom sent:

"The news about Bruce is bad--he's brain dead, was dead for quite a while before they managed to get a pulse, so now they're assessing whether any of his organs can be donated and then taking him off life support. Poor guy, yes, but apparently he's always been just a little troubled. His latest money problems seemed to have a solution, his friend Bud who talked to him Saturday says it seemed he was okay, laughing and stuff. He was determined, though, unfortunately, and more or less planned for his brother to find him yesterday morning."

Guy was a bachelor, loved to talk, and overall a good person, knew him for a long time. Just crazy this happened. RIP.
  2. Sheesh that's crazy man. I feel sad for his family and friends.
  3. That's sad. Condolences.

  5. His father died recently as well, and him and his brother conflicted over what was to happen to his fathers possesions and the family house they grew up in. His brother is a piece of work, bullied Bruce till the end, kinda sad it ended this way.
  6. I lost a brother to suicide. Sucks dude.

  17. Condolences man. I have a friend with borderline who's tried to comit suicide twice already (sleeping pills), but didn't succeed.
  18. I'm sorry but I have no respect for those who take the easy way out, it is selfish. Yeah times are rough, but now they will be rougher on those who have to pay for your funeral. I'll admit to being there once before, but I got out of that pit when I made the realization how selfish I was being, every thought in my head ended with "me", everything about my suicide before, during and after, was about me. My note was all about me and concerned with how they would find me and what would they think of me and who would show up for my funeral, what would they say about me? How will they remember me when I am gone? All selfish.

My brother-in-law attempted it once, OD'ed on blood pressure medicine, he did it because he had lost his job and my sister was pregnant with their child. Not one thought crossed his mind about how expensive it would be for her to pay for his funeral and then have to raise a child on her own, without the girl's father. He is a spineless, selfish son of a #%[email protected]
  19. Whether the act of offing ones self is selfish or not misses the point. That someone should be forced to go on living in a state of perpetual despair, just so they can spare others a feeling of loss is equally selfish.

The real questions here are to do with whether, practically speaking, one should have the right to take their own life and if so in what circumstance is it ethical. A lot of suicide may be frivolous, in that it is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, but the answer isn't prohibition of suicide. The answer is a significant, widespread effort to destigmatize mental illness and depression so that those who need help are more likely to seek it. In some cases, for example terminal degenerative illnesses or acute long-term depression suicide might be a reasonable choice.
  20. there will be no philosophy on this board!
  21. <A BORDER="0" HREF=""><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/sad.gif"></A> Sorry. Forgive? <A BORDER="0" HREF=""><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/smile.gif"></A>

  22. Okay. Just this once. You should go on some of my suicide calls. Some of them are pretty lol.
  23. he was in his 50's, friend of the family I guess I should have put, but if you answered the phone/door he would talk to you about anything, really lonely dude, (him being single for a good 10-13 years). lived 2 houses down.
  24. I can't even imagine...

I can't say that I really understand the thought process that goes into suicide, but the methods always seem bizarre. Like Heroin overdose, people! It's clean effective, quick and enjoyable.
