Funny Thing....

Discussion in '1982 Porsche 956' started by RacingManiac, Aug 9, 2002.

  1. Now here it is, Porsche 956, the single most successful Le Mans car ever with 4 victory and the 962 follows it with 2 more plus the Dauer win in 1994, sitting here, waiting to be discovered. Cars like the 787B gets all the attention simply because it's in a stupid video game(GT3, I curse you for ruining the intellgent coversation on the board!).

Exactly. One who learns about cars from video games is a moron.<!-- Signature -->

It gives you specs and history on a specific car which would be hard to find elsewhere, as well as racing it. I don't consider myself a moron, but it's not SCEA's fault they couldn't get some of RacingManiac's favorite racers licensed.<!-- Signature -->

The video-game producers don't actually care about the true car! I have played Need For Speed 2: Hot Persuit, and the car stats are so exagerrated that it isn't even funny.

  8. Re: Funny Thing....

    Video games are crap.
But I'd have to say GT3 is the most realistic one ive seen.

  9. Re: Funny Thing....

only people who diss gt3 are those who suck ass at it

  10. Re: Funny Thing....

newer ones sutch as GT2(2000), NFS porsche(2000), GT3(2001), NFS: HP 2(2002) have very exact stats about the cars.

uhhum. the cars guys? i was a little fella when this thing was winning, but by my own will i would love to drive this thing. just imagine . . . *sigh*

When I look back on it, GTP and IMSA had something going. I mean look at the amount of manufacturers that made/sponsored cars. Unfortunately nobody could beat the 956/962 without breaking the bank.

Those were the days, I still remember the Rothmans car going through the hairpin at Sebring, and seeing the glowing brake discs and the flames from the wastegate. Ahhh, those were better days.

Now as for the video games, they can be good. they can get a person interested in a car or cars that they would never hear about other wise. But the makers need to start to putting real states down about the cars.

    I don't have PS2.

  15. I've seen a few of these at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion. Absolutely fantastic. As far as being untouchable, the Jag XJ15 racer gave it a run for its money, as did Nissan and Toyota. IMSA Group C was a truly great series. I wish they'd bring it back.

  16. You've seen this thing in action? That's pretty bad ass! All I have is a couple racing clips on my Victory By Design: Porsche DVD.

  17. hehe funny thing is that I've got into Le Mans and Group C because of a video game.

  18. Look man, don't try to compare an arcade racer like NFS to a simulator like GT4 or Forza... Either way, still not the best way to learn about cars.
