Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

An MMORPG that actually has nice graphics...

    http://www.mortalonline.com/

I think I'll probably apply for the beta when it opens.

but really, the point is that those games really arnt system sellers, they are good looking (well some of them) but not system sellers, let alone make up a better quality lineup.

    killzone 1 sucked.
    LBP looks pretty awesome
    GT5P is a demo
SOCOM- most likley good, but multi system franchises void it.
Resistance was mediocre at best, the second will be as well.
MGS/Online will be good as mentioned in my post.
    motor storm is crap.

  3. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

no there are a lot of other games coming out, they just wont be the blockbusters/system sellers. games like Alan Wake (well that could turn into one we will just have to wait and see) and then a whole bunch that are multi-platform, which is void in this argument.

V8 1000X better than twisted metal, thats scientifically a proven fact.

Downloadable content is coming for both, but only the 360 is getting the +20% more content/area/story mode, sure you'll be able to download things like new cars for the PS3 AND 360. the 360 is the only system that you can get ALL of the down loadable content.

GTA4 is going to be like the old ones, its oging to be a game with infinint replay value, a game you play until the next one is released. so those expansion packs will count for something, it means you'll have something to keep it fresh while we wait for GTA:Sydney.

im not saying hte system sucks, it will eventually be the highest selling out of the two systems, it will eventually have more support than the 360, and eventually the games will look better on it. but by then the new Xbox will be soon to be released, and sony will be waiting 2 more years before releasing the PS4.

I beg to differ. In fact, I think you're flat-out wrong.

I genuinely think the games I mentioned will push more PS3 hardware than your list will push 360 hardware.

  5. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

those are almost all proven franchises. your list is made of failed franchises and new ones.

edit, except for SOCOM, but again, its not like you cant get another game that is high quality and probably better, thats still really close to teh same gameplay.

  6. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

    Failed franchises?! <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/amazed.gif"></A>

Something tells me you're looking at the wrong list. The first four GT games have sold 47 million copies, SOCOM had more online traffic than both Halo 1 and 2 in spite of not having a system like Xbox Live, Metal Gear Solid speaks for itself, MotorStorm has sold more than 3 million copies and the sequel will address all of the first game's issues, Resistance was a great game for being a rushed launch title and R2 will be the third PS3 game from one of the best developers in the world, and the first Killzone was actually quite good in spite of the AI and framerate issues--the sequel is unlikely to disappoint.

Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

I had a bunch of friends over last night and two HDTVs showed up along with three Xbox 360s. We connected everything to my TV/router and then played a bunch of Halo 3 and COD4. It was a great opportunity to finally see the difference between COD4 on the PS3 and 360 because I could just switch back and forth on my TV. Anyway, I had a quick question...

What's the highest audio quality that you can send over the 360's component cables?

Edit: nevermind--apparently it carries Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound...

    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360componenthdcable/

Question #2: could it be possible that I missed a setting on the options Blade for HD sound?

Edit #2: nevermind--apparently there are only two options and I had the correct one set (see image).

    -- FINAL CONCLUSION --

Not only did all eight of us think the PS3 version looked better (both were running in 1080p with RGB Full/Black Extended, though the PS3 was running on HDMI and the 360 on component), but the audio was also clearly superior on the PS3 version.

I don't know if this was already posted, but here's the Game Informer issue about Gears 2...

Edit: oops, I think the link would be handy --> http://www.vitosverdict.com/?p=246

  9. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

GTA4 is going to be better on 360, every single ps3/360 multiplatform game released at the same time has been better on the 360. The system is easier to code for.

  10. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

Not only do I disagree with the second half of that statement (COD4, Burnout Paradise, and DMC4 come to mind), many game journalists have said the PS3 version of GTA4 actually looks better because its lighting model is supposedly more realistic.

But again, trivial differences like this really don't matter so I think it's stupid to argue about them.

  11. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

Obviously you haven't been up to date with GTA4. McLaren777 also posted some games that were better on PS3 and more and more developers are developing games on PS3 first then porting them to 360, because they have found out it is easier. The system isn't really easier to code for, it's just most do not know how to code well for the PS3. Look at team Ninja, the developers of Ninja Gaiden Sigma. They basically told all of lazy developers complaining about the PS3 architecture to shut up and learn it.

Also Vigilante 8 was created by the SAME people as Twisted Metal. Twisted Metal is better, it's just Vigilante 8 came out when Twisted Metal sucked. Twisted Metal 3/4 weren't created by the original developers and suffered. When the original developers came back and made Twisted Metal Black, they just owned everything.

The games he listed ARE system sellers. How is Resistance 2 not a seller? Also, even if they aren't, who cares? Good games are good games. It's all about the games, not whether they are system sellers. Btw, new games become system sellers. The 1st Halo was a system seller(even though I think it's just an average shooter) with tons of hype. Hype is what makes a system seller, NOT the greatness of a a game.

As for the original question, I'd get the MGS4 bundle. DS3 and a game for free = a steal of a deal.

  12. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

I'd really like to edit a few lines of this post to keep this from turning into a flamewar...

-- "Obviously you haven't been up to date with GTA4, but I will excuse your ignorance" -- Omit entirely
-- "Vigilante 8 was created by the SAME people as Twisted Metal" -- Luxoflux is not the same SingleTrac
-- "Twisted Metal is better" -- Should have been "I personally enjoyed Twisted Metal more"

Edit: and Resistance 2 isn't a system-seller, much like Gears of War 2 isn't a system-seller. Why? Because the vast majority of people who care about those two games already own the requisite system. There are definitely some people out there who'll see a commercial for either game and think "Man, that looks fantastic--I'm gonna go buy a new console" but that kind of consumer only accounts for a couple hundred thousand units at most.

  13. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

Maybe I was mistaken about V8 being made by the same people as TM, but I know the original team of TM made a similar game when Sony chose another team to do TM3.

Twisted Metal IS better. V8 is an old game and since then TM has evolved beyond it. Maybe if V8 was still going, it would have been better. V8 is better than TM3 and 4 by a mile, but TM2 was more fun, imo.

  14. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

its not even a matter of opinion between V8 and twisted metal, vigilante 8 is better by miles.

  15. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

    That Twisted Metal 1/2 remake is #$%#ING SICK, loved those games sooooo much... but I don't have a ps2 <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/sad.gif"></A>

  16. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

  17. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

was on the way back to hospital was trying to do a quick reply, as stated before, GT5p is a demo.

what i was referring to was killzone, which was shit.

and the other repetes other than what ive mentioned only did good because there was nothing better on the PS3 in the genres (resistance/motor storm)

yeah i also tell my roommate that RS:vegas and turok look better on the PS3 just to shut him up.

  19. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

GT5P is definitely not a demo, and Killzone was not shit.

Wait, I'm curious. Exactly how much Killzone have you actually played?

  20. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

    Just wanna play GTAIV

Still no system or HD tv, looks like I'm right on schedule!

    Poor, poor Blake. <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/sad.gif"></A>

If you lived near me I'd probably give you a key to my house so you could play while I was at work.

  22. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

It's hardly a full game though.

  23. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

    Haha it'd be like You, Me & Dupree, only without the chick <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/tongue.gif"></A>

Though I did find out today that my best friend's bro has a PS3, so Sony it will be for me for sure now! Bros have xbox so I'll end up with one down the road as well. I'm such a consumer whore.

  24. Game Thread XXII - Bundle Battle: MGS4 vs. GTA4

    True, but it's easily a $40 game.

And it will continue to receive free updates and upgrades throughout the year, including vehicle damage.

And you should have accepted my Chat invite because I had the Playstation Eye all set up. <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/sad.gif"></A>

I've played COD4, back to back on the same TV. The xbox360 is much better, the textures are significantly better.
