  1. CENTO, Italy — General Motors and Russian automaker GAZ will be 50/50 partners in VM Motori, the well-known Italian manufacturer of diesel engines.

GAZ is acquiring its stake in the business from Penske Corporation. Sergey Zanozin, CEO of GAZ, said, "This equity ownership agreement enables [us] to access world-class diesel engine design and manufacturing. It's a highly promising investment opportunity, given the significant increase in demand for diesel engines in Russia and the positive business development of VM Motori globally."

GM acquired its 50 percent stake in 2007. VM Motori continues to supply diesel engines to Opel and is jointly developing a new 2.9-liter V6 turbodiesel for the European edition of the Cadillac CTS in 2009.

GAZ plans to set up local production in Russia of diesel engines licensed from VM Motori. The engines will be used initially in the automaker's Gazelle and Maxus vans and trucks. (Edmunds Inside Line)

  3. Given that it's an Italian company in question, your joke really doesn't make sense.
  4. It's that European "not funny" sense of humor. <A BORDER="0" HREF=""><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/wink.gif"></A>

Serioiusly, why would GM want to partner up with either of these companies. I mean, GM needs help - but they're still better than Italian cars.

(not a hater - had 3 Lancias and an Alfa, with a Fiat, a Dino, and 3 more Lancias in the family)

  6. Ha ha ha?
  7. ... and GAZ is a Russian car maker who recently became the major shareholder of the Italian Venti Motori

so, the Russians finally have found a way to conquer North America with the help of the Italians <A BORDER="0" HREF=""><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/wink.gif"></A>
  8. Diesel in the US please... YOU #$%#S. At least our dude from HQ said they're going to be making a small diesel Silverado in 2010 finally, but they still need to do something in cars in the states.
  9. "General Motors and Russian automaker GAZ will be 50/50 partners in VM Motori, the well-known ITALIAN manufacturer of diesel engines."

Clearly you have uncovered Putin's devious plot to invade America by getting Russian companies to purchase large shares in Italian diesel engine manufacturing companies.

Be sure to check your next meal for polonium.
  10. Small diesel 1500 would be so grand. Just a basic 2500HD is running in the high 40 grand range.
  11. Damn, GAZ is investing a lot lately
  12. Seriously. I've never understood why they didn't have small diesels in trucks. They're more efficient and have more TQ... Exactly what people who use their trucks for work are after. I think that if someone had offered a small diesel in a 1/2 ton like anytime in the past it would have sold so well they wouldn't have known what to do with themselves. It's not like your typical work truck buying would have given a #$%# about their refinement, which has always been the biggest reason people claim diesel wasn't used int he past.
  13. German sense of humor*
