The true meaning of the thread is that Ferrari goes to greater lengths than other manufacturers: threatening action against private customers (and press, should private customer cars be used), ECU modifications over stock, self-provided fuels, rev limit changes, changing out entire wheel sizes to fix inherent imbalances, etc. So far, you cannot point to another manufacturer that has done ALL of these things.

    As for McLaren, their modifications are subjective in nature: inducting exhaust sound into the cabin, lighter weighting of the gearshift paddles, improved steering feel. These are things that have very little to no effect on the speed of the car, which is not the same as Ferrari have been doing.

    Fact of the matter is, Evo/Sutcliffe were not pointing out Ferrari's shenanigans to give a win to their home-grown McLaren. You were wrong on that.

  12. Who made the distinction that only one of the 458s was manipulated?

    1s? How about the 7s difference in 0-150 for the Autocar 360? I don't recall anything touching that difference yet. Or the 5+ seconds between press and customer F430s.
    Autocar: acceleration done with passenger. Location? Autocar average their results for 2 directions. Show me the 0-200 from Autocar. They do say their test was done "on a showery day with grip at a premium."
    Autozeitung: same surface on a showery day? Averaged result in both directions? I've never heard of Autozeitung testing with a passenger.

    Like I said, it's possible McLaren have learned *one* lesson from Ferrari: how to juice up press cars for favorable results. Let's wait for customer cars' performances to confirm. And see how well they follow Ferrari's path in the other areas (many more points to go). That has always been the point of this thread, mafalda: Ferrari deserve "denigrations" because more than any other company, they have done more to swing results in their favor. Some of these things are apparently not covered under warranty, so can only be considered "modified vehicles." Show me another company that has equaled Ferrari *on all counts.*
