  1. And believe me, it wasn't a replica. You can tell if it's not a replica by feeling car(it's made of sheetrock, the replicas are auliminum).

  4. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

i have a question, is a cobra a ford? thanks in advance.

  5. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

It's an AC chassis/body with a Ford engine in it. So basicly yeah it's a Ford.

  6. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

    Is that true?

  7. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

I've seen one as well, and fell in love with it instanly... damn it's a great car.

  8. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

I get to see one everyday because my neighbor has one. Its mostly original and I'm sure its this version.

  9. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

It may have an AC chassis and a Ford V8 but this car is a Shelby.

  10. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

i already posted this on one of the other topics but heres a look a like that i saw

  11. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

I SAW ONE ON THE STREET LESS THAN A YEAR AGO

But one question....how do i know weather it's AC or shelby?

  12. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

Shelby Series what? the Cobra is the original American Musclecar!

  13. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

actually the GTO is the original American muscle car.

  14. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

False, the originals were made out of aluminum, and most replicas are made out of fiberglass. There are a few companies that make a aluminum replica of the Cobra though.

  15. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

i was at an auction with my grandpa a few weeks ago and carrol shelby was there sellin a 1966 shelby cobra 427 side oiler in a nice light blue with 0 miles it wasnt a replica it was an exension model they had some old pieces in one of his factories and built it with all orignal parts engine chassis everything was same as 1966 (carrol shelby was sellin so every1 knows its real) sold to my grandpa at a little under 300 thousand great car and a good buy

  16. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

i saw quite a few at a car show with my father and myself. on one rare occasion, i saw on just off compton road in kansas city missouri as i was riding in a car in the lane to jump on the highway. it was blue with white stripes.

  17. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

    Ah yes, the "Extension model."

Well, AC, who built every original Cobra, don't remember ever giving Shelby a bunch of parts which then got conveniently lost for 30 years. The chassis that Shelby came up with have numbers that AC never gave to any car.

Think about it: Why would Shelby's factories have parts for a car that was never built in any of them?

  18. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

No. AC designed it, AC built it, AC sold it.

Lots of cars use an engine made by a different company. The new Range Rover has a BMW engine, but it's still a Range Rover. The Tickford Capri had an Astom Martin engine, but was still a Ford. The Cobra had a Ford engine, but was built by AC. So it's basically an AC with a Ford engine then, isn't it?

  19. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

It has a Ford V8, and every other part was designed and made by AC, in AC's factory. All Shelby did was suggest to AC that they fit a V8 to the AC Ace, and they did. So why is this car a Shelby? He didn't design it. he didn't build it and he didn't sell it! If you ever look at an original Cobra you will see that it has a Cobra badge at the front and an AC badge at the rear. There is usually a Ford V8 or Ford 427 badge on each side just above the side air vents. There isn't a Shelby badge anywhere!

I bet you still think it's an American car, don't you?

  20. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

Absolutely. Just like those other great American cars, the BMW M5 and Lamborghini Countach.

Learn something about the damn subject before you start banging your gums, eh?

  21. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

If it was built in the 1960s it's an AC. If it was built any later than that it might still be an AC, but it's more likely to be a replica. Some replicas are built by Shelby, others by Dax, Sumo, Gardner-Douglas and so on. Shelby replicas are aluminium, just like most real Cobras (Sheetrock? What a complete moron. Not even Trabants were made of something that can't be moulded into a curve, breaks when you look at it and turns to mush when it rains) and most of the rest are fibreglass.

  22. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

Wrong, the only engine AC put in a Cobra was a Ford 221ci engine for a prototype, that engine was then removed and the chassis, CSX2000, was shipped to Dean Moon's shop in Santa Fe Springs, California. Then the Ford 260ci engine was installed. All of the 289s and 427s were also built in America by the Shelby American Factory. They were also sold by Shelby American in Venice, California. And the original Cobra DID have a Shelby badge right in the front.

No. You are talking bollocks. Give me a link to prove they were built in America, then follow this one to see the truth:

    http://www.accars.co.uk

Accept the facts, for f*ck's sake.

  24. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

Even Shelby's own page dances around the Cobra; nowhere does it say that the Cobras were built by Shelby American. Because they weren't.

Now prove me wrong, if you think you can.

  25. Re: I Saw One I a Car Show!

OK, an hour spent on extensive research....

Cobras intended for Shelby's racing teams and the US market were assembled in England by AC and shipped to Shelby American for the installation of two components - the engine and transmission (i.e. They were as complete as the cars Shelby sells now.) Cars for the AC team and the European market were fully assembed in England.

    So it's British, isn't it??
