  1. Re: IS ANY ONE GETTING SICK OF CARTS?

BMWMPower1 is right, why is NASCAR the only thing on the speed channel? It was so much better as speedvision.

  2. Re: IS ANY ONE GETTING SICK OF CARTS?

No but...NASCAR makes me cry.. its so sad.. thinkin how BORING it would be to do 300-400 laps over and over again around a gay circle!<!-- Signature -->

  3. Re: IS ANY ONE GETTING SICK OF CARTS?

I remember reading about the first time the F1 went to Indianopolis and the CHAMP CAR (What a gay name. Is it still called that?) drivers asked them how they found the hard long fast corner, and the F1 drivers said it was easy. Next time watch it. INDY CAR, CHAMP CAR, CARTS, NASCAR or what ever, all take the corner outside, inside outside, the racing line. F1, inside all the way, foot down all the way, drifting outside to get position.

But they are 2 different type of cars and racing. F1 hardly ever goes over 210mph, but saying they its because they have to slow down to 60 for a hard left right cicane

  4. Re: IS ANY ONE GETTING SICK OF CARTS?

I only started watching CART in 2001 (because there was a NZ driver - Scott Dixon) and I think it's ok, I do get the feeling that the spectacle is 'manufactured' - all those start-stop periods, I must admit there is more overtaking in CART, but it kinda loses it's meaning, I mean when Montoya and Schumacher overtake one another in F1, it's like "wow what a move!" but in CART everyone overtakes everybody else so often that it's not so special. But F1 could learn some things from CART, like reducing costs so that the smaller teams have a fighting chance.

  5. Re: IS ANY ONE GETTING SICK OF CARTS?

Cart suck ass. It's just a wannabe IRL and a semi proving ground for F1 drivers. The best american mortor sport is Nascar. F1 is the world's elite of racing, and always will be. Cart won't be around after 2003, I assure you. By the way, on one straight in germany they hit 254 before hitting the turn.<!-- Signature -->

hey cool name, are you a big Dan Gurney fan?

  7. Re: IS ANY ONE GETTING SICK OF CARTS?

In order for a racing series to resemble anything exciting, you have to have interesting tracks. straight left straight left straight simply does not cut it, nascar SUCKS!!!!, irl is BOGUS, and cart really needs to give its head a shake, the cart races could be way better if they wouldnt waste time at those speedways. Formula 1 is the light in the darkness, and will be there laughing when all the north american series have gone the way of the dodo.<!-- Signature -->

  8. Re: IS ANY ONE GETTING SICK OF CARTS?

yeah I think it was silly to split indycars up into 2 series.

  9. Re: IS ANY ONE GETTING SICK OF CARTS?

I don't understand why everybody keeps bashing other types or motorsport. Why not do like me and watch it all. It's all good!!

  10. Re: IS ANY ONE GETTING SICK OF CARTS?

I've never seen a NASCAR race in my life, we don't get shown them here, the only free to air motorsport on TV here is F1, WRC and Australian V8s.

  11. i dont know much about these cars and how they do things but i hear they are very unsuccessful at f1 racing... now if they were to get a new driver would they improve? or would they have to get a new car to win a few races? what do you think?<!-- Signature -->

  12. Re: Is it the driver or the car?

to win races, Minardi needs more money. Money to hire the best designer (Adrian Newey - McLaren), money for the best engine (not a crappy 3 year-old engine), money for a wind tunnel, money so they could do testing so their drivers get more practice, money for better electronics, the list could go on and on.

Having said that, Jaguar (Ford) has bucketloads of money and they are still crap. Same with BAR.

Have to say car is more important than the driver. Nigel Mansell was a nobody until he was put in a Williams in 1985, he went on to score 31 grand prix wins (and a CART championship as well). Villeneuve scored 14 wins in '96-'97 and hasn't done anything since (Except change his hair colour a few times). Mika Hakkinen never won a race until McLaren gave him the best car, he promptly won two world championships. Juan Montoya tested for Williams a few years back and was not impressive at all, now that William has a good car and possibly the most powerful engine in formula 1, Montoya is being hailed as the next 'big thing'. Don't get me wrong, drivers are mportant and a great driver can do great things with a mediocre car, (Senna in a Toleman 1984, Schumacher in a Benetton '94-'95 and in a Ferrari in '96). Conversely some drivers have great cars their entire career and don't do squat with it (Coulthard with Williams '94-'95 and McLaren '96 to present).

    I will shut up now.

  13. Re: Is it the driver or the car?

Fastest laps (Monaco GP) Time Lap
    08. M Webber KL Minardi-Asiatech (M) 1:19.968 69

Considering Webber beat the likes of JP Montoya, K Raikkonen, and J Button, the driver does play a big role in the success of a team. Can't really say that the Minardi is a better than a Renault, McLaren or a Williams can you?

That being said, Ferrari are reputed to have one of the most easy cars to drive. Thus Barrichello's closer to Schumacher these days because Schu's natural 'feel' for the car is negated because it's so damn easy to drive.

  14. Re: Is it the driver or the car?

MS is the biggest advertisement for what a driver can do to a team, he took both Benetton and Ferrari to the championship when they were down in the doldrums, it's not just about his driving though, it's also about how he gets the team focused etc etc.

  15. who doesnt like minardi?

i think every body like minardy, because they are like the ugly duck that bacames latter a swan.

  16. Re: who doesnt like minardi?

everyone likes them because theyre sooo bad, if they ever got in the points (knock on wood) everyone would go nuts!! thatd overshadow anything else that happend

  17. Re: who doesnt like minardi?

They fill up space on the track, don't get points, but they stick with it. kudos to them...A+ for effort. <!-- Signature -->

  18. Re: who doesnt like minardi?

Well, last year they started off with a totally new car, so it definately wasn't gonna be their best year. I think that they'll get better and better as time goes on (hopfully anyway). And of course i like em', they're Aussie owned and have an Aussie driver! <IMG SRC="http://www.supercars.net/servlets/cMsg/html/emoticons/smile.gif">

  19. Re: who doesnt like minardi?

Even though Minardi are probably gonna come last in every race this year, they're the Aussie team (now), so we gotta support them.

  21. Re: who doesnt like minardi?

They are there to bring comedy to the sport of F1. When sitting at the track, when they go by, you can just tell by the sound of the engine they are down on power and like through all the years of F1 someone has always done pour. I think the car looks better though.

  22. Re: who doesnt like minardi?

Minardi has struggled the last 15 years in F1 and is the only small team left, all teams that were behind Minardi have given up. Now it looks better than ever for Minardi, the car has even power steering!
Minardi is a good example of that hard trying year after year can turn out to good results.

  23. Re: who doesnt like minardi?

    At least it looks good.

  24. Re: who doesnt like minardi?

One good thing for Minardi is that they have no where to go but up. However, you can only expect so much from a team that uses engines that are a couple years old.

  25. Re: who doesnt like minardi?

Minardi may not have the seemingly limitless financial backing of some of the other teams, may not have the best car, best engines and/or engineers, their drivers may not be world champions, (yet!!! go Mark!), but they're there, at the track, having a go and they've been there for a while now. They won't win a race this year, but who knows, maybe in the rain, a few incidents, a lucky break in the pits, and they may even score a championsip point. Good luck guys!<!-- Signature -->
