LetÂs face it, the Japanese have never been that great at designing eye pleasing cars. Even the first Z was a Gortz design. Most people know the 350Z concept that was shown around the world at auto shows and featured in GT3, but that was actually the Kalifornia based design studios version. This was the car designed by Nissan of Japan that nobody liked.
depends i guess. the japanese are a conservative people. their designs are never "out there" or shocking. and when they are, they're labeled as r!ce or "crazy". one car that was designed by a japanese person is one of the best looking cars around. which car? the current dodge viper. yeah the older one was more "snake-like" but the newer one looks better IMO.
Wow, you've really show us that... Japan makes bad looking cars? I'm not sure if thats the point of the topic. Regardless, the Japanese have made some of the most elegant to the most tough looking cars.
I think that was just a blunder on Nissan's part. I think most Japanese cars look good and I don't think they receive too much help from American firms.
i mean shocking as a good term. all those crazy designs at the tokyo motor show are written off as weird japanese styling.
Sad thing is it. I was at a car show with Ferrari's. All the new cars. Then the usual old Mustangs...but then there was a 5.0 90' Mustang... WTF?
"LetÂs face it, the Japanese have never been that great at designing eye pleasing cars." oh really now.... http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2113/article.html http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/cars/images/toyota/toyotagt1_1.jpg acura NSX. also the new dodge viper and the Viper GTS-R was designed by the same person who designed the supra. Hmmm not great at designing eye pleasing cars eh <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/emoticons.html"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="http://speed.supercars.net/pitlane/emoticons/tongue.gif"></A> http://216.239.57.104/search?q=cache:egpizXbtMHsJ: www.mk4chicago.150m.com/newviper.html+Osamu+Shikado+Supra&hl=en "2002 DODGE VIPER GTS-R CONCEPT ***Later, we called the car's designer, a 44-year-old Japanese native named Osamu Shikado, whom DaimlerChrysler hired away from Toyota. Shikado had spent 14 years drawing Camrys, but came to DC because he thought it would be "very exciting." In his five-and-a-half years in Auburn Hills, he penned the Citadel, Chronos and even the front end of the European Neon before spending the last year on the GTSR. We told him we liked his Viper. "Have you seen it? I haven't seen it yet," he said with a laugh.*** An immediately distinguishable aggressive stance, coupled by what seem to be 22" wheels. Cues from the mkiv Supra are also visible, such as the headlights, which also trace their roots to the Honda S2000. This car looks like it can do some serious damage on the racetrack. Unmistakable cues from the Honda S2000. Bumber area and foglamps are classic Viper. Traces of the Nissan Skyline GTR LM car are seen in the rear portion of the car. The wing looks slightly like the TRD wing available for mkiv Supra. The interior takes on a very futuristic appearance. Echoes of the Audi TT are heard in the distance "
Change the front like the lines around the headlights, lower it, make the front look more like the 240/280Z and if the tailpipes big enough then.....
i think most japanese designs are good... except recently, because they are getting way to oval or boxy looking.... so i hope when they bring back cars with classic designs like the supra........ they better keep it simple and stick to their roots, and don;t go all futuristic on us even more so... so all in all good designs in the 90's... but lately... not so great <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/emoticons.html"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="http://speed.supercars.net/pitlane/emoticons/sad.gif"></A>
Toyota GT-One is designed by a Frenchman in Germany.... Anyway, the fact that they didn't build the original concept means they are thinking just fine....
