Lamborghini Estoque canned

  1. Lamborghini has shelved plans to produce the dramatic Estoque four-door supercar that was unveiled at last autumn’s Paris motor show.

Maurizio Reggiani, the firm’s head of research and development, said the Estoque has been put on ice for the time being. "The timing and market conditions are just not right for an additional model line," he explained.

The Estoque was a four-door, four-seat concept with a front/mid-engined layout and permanent four-wheel drive.

Lamborghini had only committed limited feasibility funding to the Estoque project. This means the car's development was at an early enough stage for the firm to halt the project without a severe financial penalty.

The move is the first concrete evidence of Lamborghini's serious rethink of its future strategy. At Paris Lamborghini said the Estoque could be powered by a V10, a turbocharged V8, a hybrid V8 or even a high-performance diesel engine.

However, company sources say the Italian car maker's back-to-basics strategy will make dramatic weight saving a priority for future models, as well as possibly dropping turbocharging plans in favour of high-revving normally aspirated powerplants.

Reggiani is resisting pressure from a number of areas to introduce a DSG double-clutch transmission and says manual "’boxes could also be dropped".

He argues that Lambo's current e-gear transmission (which is a conventional six-speed manual gearbox with an electro-mechanical shift mechanism) offers "the best combination of weight saving and mechanical interaction".

Reggiani regards the typical DSG transmission as "too smooth" and lacking in the "sense of occasion and drama" that a Lamborghini owner wants. However, he says the next iteration of e-gear will be "really surprising".

In the short term, though, sources indicate that there will be a Superleggera version of the Gallardo LP560-4. (Autocar)

    owwww ya!
  4. LP560-4 Superleggera

But Tifosi will come to know it as "coup de gras"
  5. Well, as long as they plan on introducing later when the market recovers.
  6. yeah the market isnt very hospitable to this sort of vehicle. I think the Panamera will do well but not necessarily the rapide.
  8. party @ Porsche HQ
  10. Good move in the current economy, and I like the talk of weight savings and sticking wth high revving NA powerplants.
  11. probaqbly a good idea actually
  12. Sucks, but the concept came out at a bad time.
  13. Good, it was hideous.

    Do want Superleggera LP560 though.
  14. eh, never liked it that much. Lamborghini may have once been a car company with front engined cars such as the Estoque, but nobody sees it as such anymore.
  15. This disappoints me.
  16. bahahaha nicely said.

I can understand the strategy in not producing a $200,000+ sedan in this economy but booo anyway. Estoque was in a league of its own when it came to looks. Makes the Rapide look like dog sh!t.
  17. considering they also own Lambo and Bentley it makes sense not to make it.
  18. SantAgata Bolognese, 23rd March 2009

In reference to recent press coverage commenting on cancellation of its Estoque
project, Lamborghini has not taken any decision to produce its Estoque concept
car, the four door performance saloon concept shown at Paris motor show in

As stated when the car was shown, Lamborghini believes that if a third model line
should ever be added to its product line up, a four door luxury performance
saloon could be a logical product strategy. No decision has been made to produce
    the Estoque.
  19. Should have happened til the Panamera instead
  20. You are a marketing genius aren't you
  21. not real !!!
  22. Good to hear.
  23. Only slightly disappointing
