Fully road tested both cars here they are side by side.

0-60 - Lotus - 4.4 - F355-F1 - 4.6
1/4 mile Lotus - [email protected] mph - F355-F1 - [email protected]
0-100-0 - Lotus - 14.9 seconds - F355-F1 - 15.6
0-1 mile - Lotus - [email protected] - F355-F1 - [email protected]
Skidpad G - Lotus - 0.98G - F355-F1 - 0.98G
Slalom speed - Lotus - 70.0 mph -F355-F1 - 70.8 mph
Top Speed - Lotus - 179.4 mph - F355-F1 - 177.6 mph.

Now the Lotus at the time of the test was $84,920 and the Ferrari F355 F1 was $137,725. now i admit the Lotus has a outdated apperance but when they finnaly got rid of the Turbo 4 and got a Twin V8 this car kicks ass !! and its cheaper then the F355.

They are both great cars, but when it comes down to reality, Price Vs. Horsepower, the Lotus is on top

Not to good at winning the "break off and become your own best country in the world" game. But than again, there's only one player there...

You forced me.

I love the 355, but in my friend's convoy to Le Mans last year, there was an Esprit V8 and a F355 Berlinetta, and the V8 roasted the F355 at each and every occasion. For those who know, the drive from Calais through Rouen to Le Mans offers plenty of decent driving, and they had a number of 'skirmishes' *S*

That all said, much as I love Lotus, (wouldn't give up my Elise for the anything right now) I'd have to take the 355 over the Esprit. But it'd be a tough choice....

7. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

Ferrari?? Ya right! Lotus all the way baby. This car's got it all, beautiful straight lines, power and speed. I think this thing could put 900 bhp with a few modifications.

8. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

if there was no price difference, i'd pick the ferrari....the lotus looks just a little too outdated. However, it does have better performance, and is cheaper, so it's a hard decision.

Lotus anytime...

10. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

The ferrari would have no chance to beat this car in a race, and this car gets more looks because there are more ferrari's in the US

This is hard they are 2 very nice cars. But why have a Lotus when there is a Ferrari.

I'll have to conceed the TVR Speed 12, which kicks ass by the way, but when you say "we", I assume you mean the British people, and as I recall, I think that Germans made the engine on the McLaren.

15. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

I would take Lotus, Ferrari is to often...

See ya later...

16. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

you cant beat Ferarri by just posting stats of another car that out preforms it. There is more to Ferarri that is why i would pick Ferarri over Lotuse although i Love Lotus and i cant wait till the elise gets to the US so i can enjoy Lotus engineering.

17. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

well the Lotus would ooutrun the Ferrari, xcept for top speed i think...
If some1 were to give me either... it would be quite a hard choice...
now-a-days the 355 costs almost as much as a new Esprit...
i think i would take the Esprit just to be original but after a while sell it and get a 355 just to see how much of a car it is compared to the lotus

18. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

Both are great! (Greater than some kind of crap such as NSX, Corvette and Skyline GTR., etc.)

19. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

I'd like to see you find a better handling car than an NSX for under $200000 USD that weighs more than 1000kg.

20. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

under 200000 usd
mitsubishi evo 5,6,7
Impreza
all ferraris under the price
most tvrs
most porsches
the list is endless

21. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

Um, none of those handle better. Porsche 911 Carrerra GT comes close, but not quite. Impreza and EVO Definitely handle better on slippery surfaces, but definitely not on pavement.

I'd choose the F355

22. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

the car you chose, the f355 could outhandle the nsx, let alone the 360 due to the stiff chassis and the suspension (although soft compared to a race car of course). mitsy and scooby would handle better round a road track due to the outstanding awd traction, porsche 911 turbo also. dont forget this car, the lotus esprit and elise. caterham r500, you know the big go kart, could kill anything, westfield fw400 and xtr2 also.

23. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

I was referring to the ones he listed. And in a number of road tests I've seen, Road & Track, Car & Driver, Speed Road test to name a few, even with the traction control off, the NSX handled better than the 911 Carrerra GT, perhaps the f355, but it would be close, do you have any idea how stiff the Chasis in the NSX is? or the Weight distribution? Or how advanced the Suspension is (well ok so it's not very advanced anymore, but it's still pretty good). Impreza and EVO are designed more for good handling on slippery surfaces, AWD is good, but not good enough to make up for the design differences, so if the track was hot, wet, or slippery for some other reason then yes the Impreza and EVO would handle better, but if the track were to be dry then the NSX would take this one. I don't the Esprit would handle quite as well, it'd be close, but I think the NSX would take this one too.

I bet you're one of those people that think the Z06 handles better than it actually does aren't you (it definitely has killer handling, but not nearly as good)

And of course the Elise, Caterham r500, westfield fw400, xtr2, and you forgot to mention the Lotus 340R, Suzuki Formula Hayabusa (GSX/R), and VW "Yes" would all handle better, but they're all in a totally different class (except perhaps for the Elise).

24. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

Lotus. Its a very hard decision but the lotus wins IMO. I think this has more style then the Ferrari.

25. Re: Lotus Esprit V8 VS Ferrar F355 F1

If price was not a consideration, I think I'd take the Ferrari. I think both cars are some of the best looking cars out there, and their performance figures are VERY close, but the sound of a 355 and its interior are what puts it above the Lotus for me.
