Lotus not building it!

Discussion in '2000 Lotus M250 Concept' started by fieroturbo, Aug 10, 2002.

  1. I wish they would, but it seems it won't be built. This thing isn't even on Lotus's website anymore. The Elise has kinda replaced it, which is ok, cause it handles better, but still, a mid-engined V6 versus the front-engine 4 banger Elise, and lotus chose the Elise to replace the Esprit in US showrooms. They need a catscan.

By the way, it's 0-60 in 4.7, and that top speed is electronically limited.
  2. Re: Lotus not building it!

    *The Elise is mid-engined
*Lotus may eventually build a "spin-off" of this car
*I don't think you can say the Elise handles better than this because this wasn't produced in production form
*The Esprit is ageing and really need replacing

But doesn't this car the business?........why didn't they build it?......stupid Proton bosses!! <!-- Signature -->

Lotus closes down the production of this car because they had money problems!!!! Sad but true! Correct me if i'm wrong but there were built 7 cars of them i belive! And if the question is if it outhandles a Elise!!!! It does! I've seen this car vs. a Elis Type 72 racing eachother on Donnington Park racetrack in the U.K! The M250 is a real supercar! Belive one that has seen it in action! ;-)
  7. Re: Lotus not building it!

Lotus was engineering the Clio V6 engine and had an agreement for it to be used in the M250. Due probably to the cost of developing this engine Renault went elsewhere with the project. As the engine didn't meet the requirement of a minimum of 250BHP it was dropped in favour of another engine at late stage in the M250's development. In order to meet the demand of a new engine Lotus had to take engineers of paying engineering projects. This coupled to the political games GM started playing after Lotus released the S2 Elise straight after the launch of the Speedster/VX220 lead to Lotus slipping £42 million into the red.

Still, as you are probably aware the project is back on and due in 2004 and will be an immediate sales replacement for the Esprit.

Technically, they never produced it, those were probably just prototypes.

Though the latest stories are about a V6 Elise to compete with the VX220 Turbo/Speedster Turbo. Though I can't confirm it.
The thing I can confirm is that Lotus is going to build a new Exige based on the current Elise. The Exige uses the 1.8 liter Toyota VVT engine. It has 190 bhp and 180 NM of torque. This engine will be linked to a six speed manual box. 0-62 of sub 5 secs and a top speed of little under 140 mph.

    Include me, too!
  14. Re: Lotus not building it!

This looks like the dogs whatsits, it is an amazing looker, like a supermodel, but has power and driveability that would put a supercar to shame.
  15. Re: Lotus not building it!

I think this car looks great. sorta like a stretched elise. could maybe use a bigger engine so that it could have a big top speed and to make the yanks happy
  16. Re: Lotus not building it!

me too.. this is such a tuned elise with a redone look in some parts.
  17. It's great, but I still like the Elise
