What may be the world’s most expensive mobile tire test bed, the Maybach Exelero Concept, is being offered for sale at a starting price of €5,000,000 ($7,843,000). The retro-futuristic twin-turbo V12 concept car is capable of sprinting to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 351km/h (218.38mph),impressive figures for such a large and imposing car.

Built to order for Fulda Tires as a rolling test platform and marketing tool for its widest, most high-performance tire designs, the Exelero is built around a heavily modified powerplant from the Maybach 57 S. The engine generates 700hp and 738lb-ft of torque from its bored-out 5.9L displacement. Fitted in some guises with 23in 315/25 tires, the car certainly has the capacity to test just about everything that could feasibly be fitted to a production car.

The car was unveiled for the first time ever at the Tempodrom in Berlin in May 2005. The car’s form factor is a long-nose two-seater coupe, and the interior is a unique marriage of ultra-high luxury and full-race safety gear. The car’s top speed of 351km/h (218.38mph) isn’t claimed, either - it’s proven, recorded at the Nardo high-speed test track in Italy. To see the car in action at Nardo and elsewhere, check out this video.

I wish I had $8 million to spare! And a little extra to fit A/C.
  2. it will probably be sold eventually to someone in the middle east just like all other concepts
  3. Too bad the company isn't up for auction.
  4. jesus look how fast it was going from 320 to 360 km/h at the end of the vid

    Very awesome car
  5. The only Maybach id ever want to own
  6. that looks like shit, no wonder students designed it

    I soooo want it! <A BORDER="0" HREF=""><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/grin.gif"></A>
  9. I was talking to a Maybach employee when it was at Pebble a couple years back (as he was sitting in that car) and he said they actually have 2 of them. One was kept in SoCal and the other in Europe.
  10. I dunno if I like it. Would probably take a 62S over this.
  11. Do want.
  12. One of the coolest/baddest cars made in recent history.
  13. Yep. One is the rolling concept. The other one just had the fancy interior, no engine.
  14. Get a pair of glasses...

Not those filled up with whatever sh*t you're drinking, the ones you'd use to SEE!
  15. $8 million is way to much for a concept car with no history. That kind of money should be reserved for exotic racing machines or classics like the Bugatti Royale. Id put the value at about $2 million or less.
  16. meh, some arab will have it
  17. no it isn't. However, seeing as this car has allready been used and served it;s purpose you could say it's a little on the steep side.
  18. one of the coolest cars in recent history. god it's so insanely huge/impressive irl. i absolutely adore it.
  19. they should make this the successor to the SLR
  20. Ghastly thing, that.
  21. I like it, but the body id just too ugly to be produced. Noone will buy it.
