Monitors, regular or widescreen?

  1. i got a monitor about 2.5 years go from gateway, its a 22in widescreen HD display, has heat sensitive buttons and is really sleek. im moving in about 2 weeks so i ordered another monitor off of buy.com or some crap. it was a no name brand, but the stats were about the same as my 2 year old gateway, but with even better resolution. thing is its a 26in monitor, it was 75% off when i got it so it cost me about $150. now i find out we are driving across the country to get back east, i cant find anyone to offer me more than $50 for my gateway so i decided to keep it, its going to be insane having a dual monitor set up with a 22in and a 26in screen.

  2. I have a 46" screen as my primary monitor, and a 22" secondary.

Just letting you know. Don't get too jealous.

  3. I have a 24" 16:9 LCD, 1920x1080. Its good for me since I use it for movies and my 360 as well as the computer. And for that, I just have web sites all zoomed in to fill more of the width. That said, looking at a website without zooming means it will fill only about a third of the screen's width. Its big enough that it will still be an OK size though.

  4. wasted pixels??

    oh my god.

  5. lol, i could use my 50in screen, but its just too awkward in the living room.

  6. i love my widescreen. i'd kinda hate to have to go back to regular. luckily my 'puter in my cube at work has smaller screens so it's not exactly the same, and there's two of them to compensate

  7. stewacide says it wastes pixels, man.

kk I got a 19" 16:10 widescreen. I didnt actually get it myself, it was a gift from my friend and her family for my birthday, otherwise I would have gone bigger, like 22.

At first it was awkward but now im used to, and starting to like it alot. Because of the wide ratio it looks like its small at first glance, but its actually about an inch taller than my 17 4:3 was.

Now where to find good wallpapers for 1440:900?

currently its this guy with a white background.

PM danno, he has a HUGE thing of wallpapers that kick ass, all in widescreen.

  11. oh shit I remember that thread

    here it is

  12. widescreen. also widescreen in portrait is awesome for viewing documents/webpages
only problem i find with widescreens is that some olderish games don't support widescreen resolutions. BF1942 is a perfect example of this. your stuck with either a stretched shitty non native resolution, or windowboxed

  13. 1:1 mapping with 1600x1200 is nice too, but I use it as stretched. To name a more WTF game is Doom3, which has this same problem...??? How could otherwise GOD Carmack let that happen...

  14. What browser do you use? im on ff3 and it fills it quite nicely

  15. Quake II does the same thing (predictably)

  16. I had a choice of either one and I stuck with regular.

  17. I found an old blog from the late 90s where John Romero and Carmack are shit talking each other about 1/4 mile times. Here's Carmack and his twin turbo F50

  18. my laptop has a widescreen, and my desktop has regular. The regular monitor looks so much more cramped compared to the widescreen
