My uncle.

Discussion in '2002 Bugatti 16/4 Veyron Preproduction' started by Gallucci, Oct 14, 2002.

  1. My uncle Guelfo works for the Aerodynamic department at Bugatti S.p.a. He's the man partly responsible for the idea of a retractable rear spoiler.

  2. Re: My uncle.

That would be a pretty cool job.

  3. Re: My uncle.

Did he "invent" it or did he just think of it for this car????

  4. Re: My uncle.

I'm pretty sure that he didn't "invent" it. My 2001 VW Beetle Turbo has a retractable spoiler. Porsche 911's have had them since the early '90's.

  5. Re: My uncle.

He didn't invent it. He, along with 4 other people of the department, decided to use it for this car. He did invent, though, the way the spoiler automatically lifts when the engine is turned off to let the hot air escape. The vent is located right under the spoiler.

  6. Re: My uncle.

Well thats a pretty good idea.

  7. Re: My uncle.

    Agreed.

  8. Re: My uncle.

Did you see the VW Beetle Cabrio?

  9. Re: My uncle.

Yep. Looks pretty cool. I probably wouldn't get one though, unless it had a rollbar similar to what the Golf/Rabbit Cabrios had. I've been in a car as it was rolling and flipping and such, and it's no fun at all. If there was no roof (or even a rollbar), I probably would have died.

I think the new Beetles are fairly ugly. I think they could have been a little "quieter" with the colors and it wouldnt be as much of an eye sore. The only thing I like about it is that its taking a step in a new direction instead of the tried car look companies are pushing out today. I would be interested to see the crash tests of the beetles.

If you go to http://carpoint.msn.com, you can find crash tests on all sorts of vehicles, at least you used to be able to. I haven't gone to the site recently.

The New Beetle was actually the safest car in its class (according to offset frontal impact tests and what not) until the latest Civic came out. They both have the same front and rear impact ratings, but the rear-passenger side impact ratings on the Civic are better.

I think less weight is very important for better handling.

The clutch action is beautiful. Very easy to modulate. The pedal has just the right weight to it too.

What does that mean, "My uncle is responsible for my ass" ?
Sorry, I am not familiar with American slang, and I do not consider myself at the same intellectual level as the person who posted that. My uncle has one of the coolest jobs in the world.

This has a retractable spoiler? Cool I never knew that.

  23. Re: My uncle.

Thanks to my uncle! It is meant to improve high speed stability as well as diffusing hot air from the engine bay.
