im going to get this at midnight i think. the game just looks amazing. although i dont know if i will be able to play it for weeks.
I will when I get settled somewhere w/ a job, but for the time being I'm a transient. I'll be lucky if I'm not playing on a 20" bowed-out CRT later this summer
My brother has his 360 hooked up to a pawn-shop TV I could get a cheap LCD HDTV now, but I can't standing that shimmering pixelated shit. I'll wait to buy a nice plasma or crt HDTV.
Pixelated ? well... depends on the TV I guess, mine there good. Also, don't be too difficult, it's only for gaming.

Cheap LCDs look especially bad for gaming, since it's an aliased shimmering mess. You want the picture a bit softer, at least until next-next gen when they can do HD AA.

That's the 360 version, but it's a dev unit running an image off the hard drive! That is, the pop-in apparently isn't a bandwidth issue, but something coded into the game (probably to preserve frame-rate). re: the PS3 looking better, nobody but IGN seems to be saying that (in fact, everywhere else is saying the 360 version both looks better and runs smoother, initial loading times excepted), and apparently the IGN reviewer is a massive sony fanboy so that makes sense now...
it seems obvious the PS3 version looks better, what are you trying to defend here?
This is a bit disapointing (1up ont he game generally): "You'll likely notice the same graphical "quirks" that the series has dealt with since the jump to 3D. The same filmlike, grainy framerate exists and usually holds steady, but it can momentarily dip when things get frantic. There's some long-distance graphical fade-in as well as some street-level hazards that appear only after you hit them. Traffic will be nonexistent one second, then three cars deep when you rotate the camera back around, and then completely disappear when your wanted level gets to two or three stars (which is oh-so-fun when you desperately need a getaway vehicle). But even these problems have been "upgraded" in a sense for GTA4: An artistic application of filters hides some of the uglier character models, there's more types of cars to choose from, and overall, the feel of the city trumps any of the shortcomings we're familiar with by now. But you'll be able to see that in the screenshots and eventual videos." I would have figured GTA4 would be a lot more 'persistent' given ample memory (vs. the PS2).
I seriously wish all of you guys could come over and see my SXRD. It's absolutely stunning if you're watching a top-tier Blu-ray movie, and games look fantastic as well.
i was at sears yesterday and sat down in front of a Sony RP HDTV and it still has that problem where it doesnt look uniform like a CRT/LCD/Plasma.
LOL The guy at IGN who reviewed GTA4 was Hilary Goldstein, Editor-in-Chief for the Xbox Team... http://stars.ign.com/objects/964/964246.html
Much like alignment to a racecar's suspension geometry, proper calibration is essential on an SXRD set. If you end up coming to PAX (which reminds me, I really need to put that sales pitch together), you'll see.
What's so funny, obviously the editor-in-chief will do the big time reviews, that's how he got to that position.
I may be selling my awesome LCD to buy a laptop before I head out for camp. I wont be using it for 24 days at a time and will need something to keep sane when I'm not working. Then, 52" LCD will be on its way next month of so. edit: laptop Processor: Intel® Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB/6MB cache) Windows format: Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition Color: Jet black Monitor: High Resolution, glossy widescreen 17.0 inch display (1920 x 1200) Webcam: Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Webcam memory: 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz Graphics car: 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT Optical drive: CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive) Wireless card: Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card Battery: 56Whr Lithium Ion Battery (6 cell) Sound: Integrated Sound Blaster® AudigyHD Software Edition Security: Trend Micro Internet Security 36-months Online data storage: DataSafe Online Backup 3GB wireless router: Netgear WGR614 Wireless G Router Multimedia software: Adobe PhotoShop Elements Mouse: Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse
IGN is such shit, they make the videos fUcking 320 x 180 for non-members, which is like twice the size of our avatars. That's like scnet levels of fail, then I cant sign up b/c both of my email addresses have accounts, so I renew the password and login with my email addy and my new password like it tells me to, and nothing. Then I try every sn I've ever conceived since 1989 and nothing. Then I go to IGN help and it wont tell me how to find my user name without SIGNING THE #$%#E UP to their help site? Bullshit, IGN is bullshit. This WOrlD is BULlShIt EDIT: The difference between good and shit
