  12. Rovals are not the best wheels available for a race bike. The best wheels available on the market are Mavic (the wheels that have won the biggest numbers of Olympic championships, tour de france, giro d'italia, vueltas, amstel gold race, het volk, liege-bastogne-liege as well thriathlon races), Spinergy (famous for the revx when cippo was riding his saeco caad4 cannondale), Ambrosio (great itlian made quality rims), Gipiemme (great italian made quality rims, they allowed Miguel Figueras to be the world champion in the early 1990's), Fulcrum (a new brand that makes very high quality rims which are already used by professional cycling teams), Zipp (one of the best brands for carbon wheels), Corima (the leader of the carbon monobloc frames and wheels), Ritchey (very good wheels made by Tom Ritchey)and Rigida ( a very good quality price ratio wheel manufacturer).

The one that was gone in the early 90's was roval and the roval wheels were only made for tubular tires and with a 7 speed cassette sprocket hub. They were manufactured by a small bicycle shop in France. Then in the 00's specialized bough the brand and their patents.
here is more about mavic http://www.mavic.com/road/company/history.aspx
