  2. Re: Nice car

yes, indeed. The 240 Z, plus the RX-7, Miata, MR2, supra, WRX, skyline, celica, NSX, type-R, the newer vers. of the above (300ZX) and whatever else, they all fall under the "sportscar" genre. along with the greatest of the greatest european superspeed.

    and, there you have it.

    cheers!<!-- Signature -->

  5. Re: Nice car

I think this is a true classic sports car. I'm steering a friend of mine toward one as his next car.

  9. Re: Nice car

Although dropping v8's in Z's makes fun cars. I think it's sacrelige! It makes me want to put RB26DETT's in Mustangs! (it would make them faster.

  10. Re: Nice car

I have one of these at my disposal, it gets attention wherever I go.

  11. Re: Nice car

one of my best friends has one of these and I tried to get him to drop a v-8 into it but he always says thats bastardizing it, and wants to build a turbo 2.8 litre, or put an NA 3.0 litre v-6 with quad overhead cams. and with this car being so light 220 hp would be very fun with this car.<!-- Signature -->

Isn't it funny that one of only two Japanese cars I think are attractive (the other being a Toyota 2000GT) was actually styled by a German? It would figure though....old Goertz knew what he was doing and if it wasn't for the 240Z, I don't think I would have ever even considered getting a Japanese car. Strangely enough, it is also on virtually the only series of RWD Japanese cars. Why the hell are the 'sportscars' all front wheel drive? What gives? I also hate to admit that the little Nissan OHC does what it's supposed to. (I would probably put an L28 in instead though. If it wasn't for the Z, I bet Japan wouldn't have nearly as many REAL sportscar followers (Ricers don't count). If you don't buy a Z or a 2000GT why buy Japanese crap? Europe offers SO many better cars. By the way...Datsuns were better rallye cars than Subarus are. and Focii and 131s are better than Datsuns. As we can see, Europe is superior.<!-- Signature -->

What "sportscars" are you talking about? The Miata, the single car responsible for all the roadsters in production right now, is RWD, as is the MR-2. And let us not forget the Supra, 300ZX, RX-7, and NSX, all of which are RWD of course. There are NO sports cars coming out of Japan with FWD. Everything making a serious attempt to be a sportscar is RWD or AWD.<!-- Signature -->

  18. Re: Nice car

Sure, I agree with all of that but one statement. What most people call a 'sportscar' is a Civic with a flashy paint job and a big windshield banner. I guess it depends on where you live. NSXs are next to fables for me and Supras, RX-7s, MR2s, etc. are just more luch for the 5.0 crowd. Do really consider Supras and RX-7s sportscars? I think of them as just fast imports. You got me with the Miata and MR2 though..... Fortunately, Mazda is with Ford now. Besides, MR2s were born to copy Fieros which in turn looked like they took many cues from the X1/9. My point was: 240Zs were pretty amazing for a country like Japan to put out.<!-- Signature -->

  19. Re: Nice car

Ah, well I see your point about the Civics. Personally, making an economy car as flashy as possible and haveing an exhause tip big enough to lose a small child in doesn't make it anything like a sports car for me. Technically, I wouldn't call Supras, RX-7's, and their peers sports cars because they aren't open top. I'd call them GT's I guess, but the RX-7 in particular lends itself to sports car driving much more than touring, which makes me lose faith in the deffinition of a sports car as open. <!-- Signature -->

  20. Re: Nice car

Yes....I see what you mean. 240Zs were just so neat for a country like Japan to come up with. RX-7s are pretty neat as well with that little rotary.....much more sporty than Ro80s. Shouldn't a 'sportscar' really be a vehicle which is just for driving for fun. They tend not to have much cargo space, should only carry 2 people, etc. How much would it cost me to build a D production 240Z to compete in SCCA events? Any ideas?

  21. Re: Nice car

I don't think it needs to be a roadster to be a sportscar, but I do agree that a civic need not apply for the moniker either. My Father had a 260 in the same colour, I once had it up to an indicated 140 (it was modified) and it was still accelerating when I chickened out and backed off. Great cars for not a lot of money, relativly maintance free (compared to European cars of the time) and stylish. It is not a well known fact, but Pininfarina did have a hand in cleaning up some of the 240's final shape. I like the fairlady Z better.. it had a longer nose and no upper grill.

  22. Re: Nice car

I have a '71 240Z w/ an old hipo 350 in it. Purists piss me off. The only Z I would feel bad about putting a different engine in is a 69 or 70 in pretty much perfect shape. The Zs engine bay can fit some pretty damn big engines in it. A few guys have big blocks. Another guy I know has an RB26DETT in his Z. I think the coolest engine to put in it would be the 20B, though.

Also, Fairlady Z is just the 240s name in Japan. I think you're talking about the G Nose. That was a factory option in Japan and you can buy the kits at a few different places.

  23. Re: Nice car

Yes, there are few cars the 20b wouldn't improve. It is the 13B jacked up on steroids, with a tri-turbo system and porting and whatnot they can be tuned to over 900bhp. But that's all just bs. Anyone lucky enough to own a 20B would do a lot better to put it in the mother of rotary, the one and only rx-7.

I wanted to comment on something said earlier. The rx-7, supra, 300zx, etc... are all sportscars by any conventional definition. They aren't _roadsters_ but they're sportscars.
