They don't NEED a supercharger to be fast. That's like saying that a WRX is the same as the Hennesey Venom 800TT. And since when is an I-4 like a good ole American V8? Sure they might have superchargers, but it's like making a great car better, not like taking a POS japcrap and making it half-decent. Don't ever be confused like that again.

The simple rule to extra power is, the more fuel and air applied, the greater the power generated. High displacement makes that goal easier to acheive. In the real world however, environment and traffic laws from various countries penalise car drivers who wish to own higher displacement vehicles. Road taxes, and insurance can easly prevent someone from owning a car of high-displacment, which harms car sales in that particular country. No sales = NO PROFIT, simple.
What you call "Japcrap" such as the Subaru Impreza WRX does not match the cylinder capacity of a Camaro LS1 engine, true. But what you need to understand is Inline 4 cylinders means that you avoid such ownership penalty that is in effect WORLD-WIDE. For extra power without increasing displacement, is to increase the quantity of air within the confines of 2 litres displacement. The role of Turbo/Super chargers do just that.
Do you really expect the likes of Honda/Toyota to apologise or something just because their small low displacment hatch-back cars cannot match the speed and power of the big sports cars such as the Camaro and Stang? Do you actually understand the concept of "Built for Purpose?" CONSIDER the MARKET each car is AIMED AT, and stop using your Gran Turismo 3 as a source of knowledge!

    StangS4ever

The displacement problem ALSO hits on American cars, but this time, not through law or environment concerns. For even more power, cars such as the Mustang Cobra would need more displacment to get that power. Increasing displacement on existing engines would be costly for a car manufacturer. Even MORE costly if they designed a new engine all together. What is so stupid or wrong with adding Superchargers to increase power if increasing displacement is impractical and costly? Grow up.

Tell that to a guy with a 428 Cobra Jet, before he wipes the floor with you, he would laugh, and assure you Ford is fully aware of what a pushrod is. And I don't understand your anti-supercharger campaign. They make cars faster, why complain? Cobras, didnt have them until this year, and certain Saleens have them , not all. And when you pull up next to a 500hp Saleen S351, you'll wish you put one on your car too. If you want to win that is.

Lets just get one thing straight. SALEEN IS NOT I REPEAT NOT FORD!! THat would be like me saying hey what about that Berger SS. Now I do agree the new Ford Cobra is great but a Saleen is only a ford body! So don't back up ford with a entirely different company!

Saleen is a Tuner, the cars that they tune are Mustangs, mustang engine, mustang unibody etc. Its still not a ford? think again.

  16. Re: Pretty nice car....But it's still a Chevy

I agree Matron. You are tuning a Ford. Saleen is representing Ford by working on their cars. It leaves with the Ford emblem on the bumper.

GET OUT OF 1970! THE NATURALLY ASPIRATED ENGINE ON PERFORMANCE CARS IS GOING TO DIE PRETTY SOON! SOON ALL THESE CRAPPY ENGINES WILL REPLACED WITH TURBO OR SUPERCHARGERS, AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!

  18. Re: Pretty nice car....But it's still a Chevy

There's nothing wrong with Forced Air Induction, but as far as saying NA is gonna die, I think your wrong, are you forgetting about the ZL-1 with the 427 BigBlock? NA and it runs 9's! and the ZL-1 LS6 with 400hp NA!
Oh yeah don't forget other companies like honda, how many cars do they make with turbo? Whether people like it or not the NSX is a NA 6-cylinder that's pretty fast. I don't think NA is gonna end I think's it's getting better!
