I like many more than "one kind of car". Most V8-powered American dinosaurs are not on my list though. I'm not closed-minded to them, that's what I don't think you're understanding. I've driven them. Repeatedly, even. And the single least fulfilling driving experience of my life, aside from a friend's '89 S10, was a '95 Firebird Formula. I'm sorry, I hate them. But you do whatever you want. You like whatever you like, and look at whatever you want to look at. I'm not disputing your right to those things, so stop with that shit, okay? All I'm saying is that it really pisses me off when people talk shit about this "American v. Japanese" bullshit, and about how F-Bodies and the Z06 are better than everything. How do you like going into a forum and seeing "this car sucks" all over the place? Unless, of course, you're the type who starts those threads....

I've never been "schooled" by a Trans Am, or a Camaro, or anything else like that. The only time I raced one of these monstrous excess-mobiles was on wet pavement, and I kicked ass because I knew the Camaro's tires would spin on the wet pavement. And they did. For about 15 minutes. You should've seen the guy's face. Even funnier was his girlfriend's.

Back off, dude. This doesn't have to be World War 3.

  8. And the things you hate are only in import forums? i still don't think your seeing both sides of the issue. It happens all over the place i don't like going to a trans am forum and see "a NSX will destroy this" or "This car is ugly" you were the one that got all defensive. You were also the one who told me i shouldn't be in an Integra forum just because i didn't agree with you. I didn't mean for you to get all defensive just want to argue a point with you which you blew out of the water. Your not as stoopid as i though you were if you had enough sence to race a Camaro on wet Roads at least your not trying to race them on dry ones <IMG SRC="http://www.supercars.net/servlets/cMsg/html/emoticons/smile.gif">

  13. In response to unilenniums post:

I have also worked on a few engines.
    "Pushrods VS OHC"
About the pushrods becoming bullets at 6800 RPM-it depends on the engine. I'm sure if they are made from lighter alloys, then they can easily go beyond this.
The reason that OHC engines are so much heavier has nothing to do with the weight of the cams. Its the weight of the cylinder head. They are huge on OHC engines and even bigger on DOHC engines and as they are cast ally that makes all of the difference. The cams make a small (tho not tiny) percentage of that weight.

Funnily enough, OHC engines generally have more torque than their pushrod counterparts, due to the lighter Valve System. Its just that they also have generally smaller capacities.

About adding another bank to a "torqueless 2l engine"
The main loss in efficiency would be the larger crankshaft to handle that extra power. If in 2l I4 form it can have 240HP or whatever, then it should be able to push 400HP or so in 4l V8 form.

    About the VTEC:
1 cam profile for low rpm so you dont have to rev the ass off it to get a little power-i.e. good Fuel economy
1 cam profile for high RPM - so the torque band goes into much higher RPM - Power if you rev the arse off it. Just meand you got to be in the right gear.

Talking about wasting gas to get some revs. How about wasting gas to fill up a huge capacity engine enough to make it spin?
The differences are - you have to work a VTEC hard to get it to go fast - so what. The Big V8's have loads of power right from the word go - so what its about what you prefer. I personally dont mind either. They are both good fun.

In response to beliveinfiction's comments on Ford trouncing ferrari:
The 7.0 V8 egine Ford used was in fact an OHC engine So much for OHV, eh? The cammer engine was an amazing engine for its time (still is)- Up to 660BHP form a huge V8 and an insane redline (for such a big engine. Basically they combined a bit of old style American muscle with OHC - meaning that as they could now have a compound valve angle*, the valves could be even bigger. Specfic horsepower(sic) and sh*tloads of torque. No wonder it anihilated anything that tried to be competition. I would love one of those GT40's (I think they were in Mk2's or 3's)

Varaible valve lift (as in what makes VTEC so special) has been around since the 1920's (you did read right). Some british sportscar used a lever in the cabin that adjusted the effective cam profile. Variable valva timing is is most engines(in the world anyway) available these days. However, few engines use Varaiable valve timing and lift.

So what have you got at the end of all of this?

Yank tank= Sh*t loads of torque, good 1/4 mile times, sh*t handling
Revvy Jap cars = lots HP for the capacity, good handling, not so good acceleration (I have to say they do have next to f**k all torque for their power aswell).

I personally like either for the different reasons

I guess it all comes down to what you prefer. Its says something about you if you have to be told that.

  14. sickboy9

The fact that U R on these forums and indicates that you are a car enthusiast.

I admit that I didn't think previously that Camaros were anything special (but then, I also didn't care for F1 cars); but I appreciate them for what they are: cheap speed machines; and they don't do too badly on the race track either.

I agree that they may not feel as "well-oiled" as an Acura, with it's smooth steering, brakes and shifter, but the result is the same. THe problem is those who think that numbers mean everything.

However, I would suggest that you learn to appreciate what they have to offer rather than resorting to idiotic statements about their age, and 'lack of technology.'

And I would venture that someone who doesn't like the basso profundo rumble of a late 60s musclecar has no right calling themself a "car enthusiast."

PS: A Q?: today a "Bullit" mustang (2002) rumbled past me at work: but it didn't say "BULLITT" at the back bumper, it had the "Torque-Flite" wheels or whatever they are called, and the "metal" gas cap, and sure sounded like a V8, but it said, "MUSTANG" on the back bumper, and I thot. that those are V6s.

Anyone care 2 enlighten me? <!-- Signature -->

  15. ""f*** torque. we're talkin about the 9000 RPM redline here. the bottom line is that honda has the tehcnology to make them that high. last i hear, the GM was still trying to figure out what DOHC means.""

Um, did you know that OHC tech is actually older than OHV and that GM uses DOHC in some of its cars?Dumbass Ric3r

  16. Honda I-4 DOHC technology is from the fuc*in 1920's, older than americas technology. This thing has a real high redline, but only because it needs it. Honda engines just have to work way too hard to produce just as much power as an American V8... think of it this way, the more cylinders, the less harder its gonna have to work (well duh) But also the more cylinders the more HP and torque, which is what you want for racing (duh) so why not screw the I-4's and get something with a little more giddy up and go... hondas are just a trend they'll wear out some day, except for the die hards that will get their ass's kicked at every race and wont care because they just LOOOVEEE their altezza lights...

  17. can a h22 motor make 750 hp i heard some people did that is that true cuz i am making a project car????

  18. It seems like u dun't understand about how torque and hp and rpm are related....

Basically, torque is the actual power that the engine makes. Horsepower can be obtained by the rpm and the torque. Here's an example:

Person A is a skinny guy, he can't carry heavy things, but he can run fast.

Person B is a big muscular guy, he can carry heavy things, but he's slow.....

Let's say these 2 people have to carry 1000lbs of peanuts from box 1 to box 2. They can use any size of container they want. Person A chooses to carry 50lbs at a time, becuz he's weak, but he can move fast. He's able to carry 10 times per minutes, thus, he is able to carry 500lbs per minutes, and it would take 2 minutes to transfer teh peanuts from box 1 to box 2.

Person B, on the other hand, is able to carry 100lbs at once, but he runs very slow. He can only carry 5 times per minutes, thus, he is able to carry 500lbs per minutes, which in return, he's able to finish the job in 2 minutes, or teh same time as person A.

In this example,we can see that although person A and B are totally different, one can move fast but weak, and one is strong but slow. Back to our topic, the amount each person can carry at a time is like teh torque; the rate of they carrying the peanuts is the rpm; and the final result is teh hp. So, person A is like a car with not much torque, but can rev to high rpm; while person B is like a car with a lot of torque, but has a low redline. But in teh end result, they still have teh same hp! So...why do some cars have low torque and high rpm, and some have high torque but low rpm? Back to teh example, person A is a weakling, if u tell him to carry 100lbs, he couldn't even lift it!! On the other hand, even if u ask person B to carry 10lbs, he would still need a minute to carry 5 times. So, a car with low torque, but high rpm, teh weight can't be too much, and a car with a lot of torque, can move a heavy car or lightweight car at teh same speed.

I hope this cleared the hp and torque matter!

A short stroke engine has high rpm, but not much torque, some examples would be: Formula one cars (18000rpm, 300lbs/ft torque, 800hp), Ferrari F355(8500rpm, 268lbs/ft of torque, 375hp), 360 modena(8500rpm, 275lbs/ft of torque, 400hp), etc, Honda AP1, DC2, DC5, EK9, etc.

A long stroke engine has low rpm, but a lot of torque, american cars are like this.

cars with smaller engines tend to be more balanced and has a better weight disturbution. As for reliability, NSX has been known as the most reliable exotic.

  19. Sometimes it surprising how many narrow, one-track (and rather slow) minds are allowed to shout their whiney assed opinions so freely. Only a handful of people in this forum made any sense. All this crap about american V8's etc etc. You have to compare like with like. You also have to find a car to suit what the hell you want it to do. You want to brag to your mates about 0-100 times and quarter mile times then get a drag racer. But you don't see them using drag racers in formula one. Not because drag racers are useless, but because they're not designed for that. Honda never claimed that an integra type R would beat every american car. So why the heck are so many peeved americans coming into the Integra forum to slag off Honda? America have come up with some legend cars. But so has Japan, so has Germany, Italy and England. Some better than others in some areas, but none in all areas. I like the integra type R, but that doesn't mean I hate all american cars.

  20. I don't intend to be mean or anything but when the Ford GT-40 debuted in 1964, it was absolutely terrible. Not that it was a bad car, instead the team just didn't have the right parts to play with (Gearboxes) and the 1965 season was a repeat. Now don't get me wrong, I love the GT-40's more than most people do; I tip my hat to any car that can win Le Mans 4 times in a row..........but Ferrari is still AWESOME. Period.

  21. Yes your absolutley right, the GT40 was not initially a success story. However i did mention its wins at Le Mans to show buzzbomber that americans could make one heck of race car from big pushrod V8, not to demean Ferrari's racing history. (Which today is FAR better than ford's)

  22. Thank you, somebody with some brains. I 100% agree, and also, Pushrod V8's are actually newer than the DOHC engine... Im serious. DOHC was used in the 1920's, used by some of the very first cars (cant remember a specific name), Pushrod came later, not sure exactly what time, but its "newer" technology, and a hell of a lot better in my opinion, no other engine that i know of can produce horsepower and torqe as efficiently. Japan has nothing on america, never will, unless they can somehow get rid of their shitty DOHC.

  23. Re: sickboy9

Well said. I'm totally with you. I get made fun of all the time by guys who think that their car can beat anything. I have what some of you call a "Grocery Getter". But I also get compliments as well from REAL CAR PEOPLE. Who can appreciate what kinda car I drive and tell me that I've done a good job with it.

  24. "Japan has nothing on america, never will, unless they can somehow get rid of their shitty DOHC."

Oh really? and I suppose the cleaner burning, lighter engines are inferior to the dirty burning, heavy, diesel-level-redline Gasoline engines of days gone? right buddy, you're young, that's gotta be your excuse.

DOHC was not used in the 20's, in fact it was first used in the 70's, I-4 on the other hand was around in the 20's, and American manufacturers gave up on that design because they didn't want to invest the time and effort it would take to make I-4 engines produce reasonable amounts of power, so they took the easy route and began working with V6 and V8 engines. In the 40's Japan and a few other nationalities began working with I-4's, and started developing them so that they produced reasonable amounts of power. Japan has recently developed I4 engines that produce quite impressive power (these engines are also much more advanced than even OHC and OHV engines currently on the road today), and they are the ones who developed DOHC engines to points which exceed North American achievements.

So once again, don't be such a silly twat.
