  2. But only 3.25 liters on economy mode. Nice and simple trick to improve volumetric efficiency...

  4. I wonder whatŽs the exact configuration of that variable displacement system - is there a link available for more info? Nothing found yet about Cien on cadillac.com.

Death to muscle cars? No, no, no, this is just the beginning my friend. This is going to raise the bar on muscle car standards! Not only can this thing go straight and fast, but I do believe cadillac makes quite the suspension system!

What is your problem man? This is the greatest Cadillac EVER! And it is not a constant V12 because it has something called Displacement-On-Demand. Displacement-On-Demand is like this: during cruising and coasting, where a minimal amount of power is needed, the right bank of cylinders shut down, so it is effectively, a Inline-6. And for you Mr. Muscle-Cars-Destroy-The-Environment-So-Get-A-Honda-Insight, the Cadillac Cien's Northstar XV12 has an advanced verticle direct injenction system, which promises to improve fuel economy, boost power and lower emissions at the same time. But the Northstar XV12 is still a work in progress.

Here is another cool thing, the body and the chassis of the Cien is made of carbon fiber and composites, just like the McLaren F1. We can hope to see it at the North Amercan International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2002.

There is one bad thing I found about the XV12. It is not financially feasable to build it on a conventional assembly line, so it would most likely be built by Coswoth, a BRITISH specialist who amazingly has done most of the initial work on the Cien. But the worst thing of all is that the Cadillac Cien would most certainly carry a price tag of $250,000, if it sees production that is.

So don't be whining that this car is going to destroy the environment because this is a giant leap in automotive technology. The only thing we can whine about is that it is a concept. And we can whine that if it does go into production, it would carry a price tag of $250,000. <!-- Signature -->

First off I'm not against big displacement engines . . . . nor GM . . . . . not all GM vehicles sucks . . . . the vettes are a classic and so are some of their other cars . . . . . just that KOOF somehow thinks that everyone needs to know about variable displacement . . . . . anyone here thinks an engine that shuts down half its cylinders is a hard concept to grasp??? Well . . . . . it's certainly a hard concept for KOOF, that's why he needs to re-explain everything to himself again on this thread . . . . . shut ur hole Koof . . . . you are raving about a car that is automatic . . . . .

  10. Don't worry, this will never see production. I promise you. nobody is gonna spend 250000 on a cadillac, unless maybe they're making a rap video.<!-- Signature -->

  11. I think they will.
GM has an awesome marketing division that just stepped in last year =)
And honestly, does it really matter? if this car doesn't go in production, the technology behind it will!!
The Displacement on Demand system would work great for V8's!!
imagine a redesigned Northstar with the same power and more efficiency!! can you say WOW!?
